I've read about this fish yesterday, and I was like "wow! that is really amazing!".
Check out this video:

I must say Rollio, that top picture looks like a painting, and not a real place.

Then again, LOTS of weird things exist in the world.

Naked mole rat
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_mole_rat

Picture about the animal [yeah, they are ugly!  ;D]:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The naked mole rat (Heterocephalus glaber), also known as the sand puppy, or desert mole rat is a burrowing rodent native to parts of East Africa and the only species currently classified in genus Heterocephalus. It is notable for its eusocial lifestyle, nearly unique among mammals (only the Damaraland mole rat shares the trait), and for a highly unusual set of physical traits that enables it to thrive in a harsh, underground environment; including a lack of pain sensation in its skin, and a nearly cold-blooded metabolism.

The naked mole rat is also of interest because it is extraordinarily long-lived for a rodent of its size (up to 28 years) and holds the record for the longest living rodent. The secret of their longevity is debated, but is thought to be related to the fact that they can shut down their metabolism during hard times, and so prevent oxidative damage. This has been summed up as "They're living their life in pulses."
Due to their extraordinary longevity for such a small rodent, an international effort was put into place to sequence the genome of the naked mole rat.

Dear sweet Armok, that damned thing's uglier than the goblin shark!

Okay, here's my entry:  The Sacculina.  This disgusting and horrifying parasitic barnacle takes over a crab's body, essentially making it a non-undead zombie whose only purpose is to care for the Sacculina.  It grows out of the crab's body where an egg sac normally would be found and even forces the crab to defend it.

I'm pretty sure there was an X-files show centered around a human-targeting fungus, based on this ones. It was also a silicon based lifeform, just to add to the weirdness.

Anyone heard of Mantis Shrimp?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantis_shrimp
Spoiler: pic (click to show/hide)
It's:
1.a pretty little bugger
2.got the most advanced eyes of all animals(infrared to uv, plus light polarization. twelve types of colour-detecting cones, as compared to 3-4 of a human)
3.totally badass killing machine
4.an animal that you can keep one in an aquarium at home.

Histiophryne psychedelica
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histiophryne_psychedelica
Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49H4HJ4X29s

"H. psychedelica crawls on its pectoral fins, and has been observed using its fins to push off from the seafloor while at the same time shooting water through its gills to propel itself forward, which observers have described as resembling a bouncing beach ball."
