Well, given that we're talking about a relatively short period of time, he might not of co-authored any papers.

Let's see how long it is until someone turns up his curriculum vitae.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

The Toady love is a little scary. But the curiosity... man, I finally see why tabloids are so popular. Not that I need to know everything about our local wonder programmer. Just, y'know, A little interested even though I can probably guess the answer.

Paul Erdős was a Hungarian mathematician. The Erdős number is the distance of any particular person from him measured in collaborative authorship of papers. So someone who collaborated on a paper with Erdős has an Erdős number of 1. Someone who collaborated with that person has an Erdős number of 2. And so on.

It's actually a pretty common intellectual game played by mathematicians.  If Solarn has any significant background in math, it wouldn't suprise me if going to wikipedia wasn't necessary.

Do you think Toady haas seen this thread yet?

This is a very cyclical conversation, and it has gone very far afield from the original coversation.

In other words, a normal day on the bay12 forums.

Yes, and Paul Erdős owned almost no material possessions and was a campus squatter at many, many universities and so he has through his life worked with a lot of mathematicians.
