What happend to Wires?
« on: February 22, 2009, 01:45:28 pm »

I'm trying to set up a physical, wired network because, apparently, wi-fi networks use gamma rays for transmission.

There's one problem; they don't make wired routers anymore.

Every router on the market is wi-fi! What happened to regular networks?

My router is a Modem+Router. It is 100% wired AND 100% wireless. Awesomeness. You can wire up to 4 computers to it and have a wireless connection to a ton more. Massive lan parties are possible on this router.

But like I said. It's wired. But wireless at the same time!

So if I can find one, you can too.

This is a joke, right?

Even wireless routers still have plugs that you can use to convert it to being a wired router. You can have one plug going into the wireless router, and another plug going out of the wireless router into the main computer.

If they used gamma rays then they'd use quite a bit more power and I would have a dozen types of cancer by now.

gamma rays, x rays, visible light, even microwaves, they are all the same thing, just diffrent frequency groups.

The particular segment used by the router may or may not be harmful, so you would want to check that, but many parts are completely harmless.

This is a bizarre assertion.  There are a huge variety of qualitative differences that arise as a result of quantitative change in frequency.  Specifically, all EM radiation below the ultraviolet is non-ionizing.

Footkerchief is right. They might all be electromagnetic waves, but they sure as hell don't all have the same properties. I don't see visible light giving me skin cancer, though ultraviolet light does. And gamma waves pierce through almost anything, while light can be blocked by a sheet of paper.

I know that... believe me, if Wifi was ionizing, I'd be glowing by now.
But I'm still not allowed to use them devil transmitters in the house.

Oh, you meant that kind of "apparently."  My sympathies.  But yeah, you might be able to buy a wireless router and then disable all broadcasting (not sure all models would allow this) and just use the Ethernet ports built into it.  A non-broadcasting devil is still a devil though, so that might not cut it.

Well, if you know what to look for, it may be possible to find non-wireless ones.

If it is other people who have the issues, you may be able to convince them that the wireless one you are using as a wired hub can't use wireless at all giving you the freedom to disable it..

Yes, if the "others" are that technologically illiterate, there's no reason you shouldn't just plug (or for that matter TIE) a bunch of wires to the back of your wireless router and claim that it's really a wired router.
