I'll make another Golden Bough card, for variety.

Just saying, I don't know the Aeneid, but in The Golden Bough, the author describes an ancient priesthood at Nemi, where a sacred tree stood. No one could take a branch from the tree, unless they were a runaway slave. If a slave managed to break a bough off of the tree, he could challenge the current priest of Diana to one on one MORRRTTAAALLL COMMMBBBBAAAATTT. If the runaway slave won, he would become the priest and presumably be absolved of any legal obligations to stop running away from slavery.

That might make for a better effect than reviving an emperor, since we can probably find something in mythology with a more direct connection to bringing stuff back from the dead than the Golden Bough. If there were any former slave emperors, it's even better.

Caligula actually messed with the succession and turned it into gladiatorial games, so I think that the Golden Bough should have a more slave-fight type power.

I went for a much more Spartan drawing of the Golden Bough, mostly because Barbarossa already did a chunky, sparkly one:

I'm fairly sure modern mythologists think both are referring to the same sort of plant - mistletoe. Specifically mistletoe growing on the branch of an oak tree.

Okay, I thought about some rules for this
For start:
Each player takes three emperors from their deck, and puts them into play (choose one to be the current reigning emperor and the others to be senatorial). Then draws 4 cards from the deck.

Emperors have these stats:
Strenght: Matters when fighting against other emperors
Stamina: How many blows can the emperor take
Speed: During the combat phase, the emperor with higher speed attacks first, and Every card has a speed value. You cannot play cards in one turn that would have combined speed higher than your emperors. For ex. Gladius has speed 2 Fountains have speed 3 and your emperor has speed 3. You can only play one card right now. But the other will have to wait for the next turn
Power: How much your emperor can control. You cannot have cards in play that would have combined power higher than your emperors.

You cannot play cards if you can't afford them. If your remaining speed pool is 2 then you can only play cards that have 2 speed or less. If you have in play cards that have combined power higher than your emperor, then choose one card and put it into your graveyard. If the power of these cards will still be higher, then repeat the process

Why include such restrictions and costs similar to MtG mana, or Yu-Gi-Oh levels?
To maximise fun, and so that the play won't be determined by "who has better cards"

I have a lot more ideas, like winning conditions, card types, and other things, but I'd like to hear what you think about these first  ;D

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Inaluct. The Aeneid is the go-to book for Roman mythology, straight from the Romans. In the Aeneid, Aeneas needs the golden bough to go to the underworld and get advice from his dead dad, so actually an effect like "Allows the equipped emperor to use a dead emperor's special power" or something to simulate the dead guy passing on wisdom.

Either way, I don't like this other silly book. I think the Aeneid is more reliable.

I suppose inaluct wants to make a third Golden Bough card that can make two Emperors marry each other?
