Seems like "Strength" would refer to military power (since not many of these guys participated in battles other than symbolically) so "Power" would be... influence over the Senate?

If that ends up being the case, Octavian Caesar's 10 should probably be in Stamina instead of Power - later Emperors (not a title actually taken until much later, although Augustus "Protector of the People" is acknowledged to be the first) had the Senate whipped so far they would stop breathing wilfully if Caesar commanded it. (well, at least they would stop EACH OTHER breathing if Caesar commanded...) Tiberius started the trend, Caligula frightened them until they peed their pants, and by the time Nero came along it was practically expected that Caesar murder a dozen Senators a day and string a harp with their intestines.

Under Augustus and his nephew they still had some backbone befitting their position.

here's my idea.

Strength - Used for attacks, this is defined by military might and FORCE of rule.

Stamina - How long they ruled, defines how many turns they may be out at one point
before going to the 'resting lounge' for 3 turns.

Speed - Which emperor goes first, defined by intelligence and cleverness

Power - Ruling power, used like MP for attacks.

Fair enough. Also, your game, your rules - that's why I said "if it turns out that way."

This is pretty much what I was thinking.

Also, is there an exception for "Roman Emperors" and "descendants of Aeneas" (thus attributed to the Julian line -- referring to "Julius Caesar" not the later Emperor Julian, in case that's confusing) who were thought of that way in "historical accounts" which are now known to be works of fiction or mythology?

I'm specifically thinking of special unit cards for Macsen Wledig ("Emperor Maximus") and King Arthur (who Geoffrey of Monmouth claimed was descended of the Julian line in "A History of the Kings of England").

Out of yours I vote Claudius - although that could be because I have a soft spot for him after reading "I, Claudius" and "Claudius the God" by Robert Graves.

From Inaluct's set, Julian the Apostate is awesome with his essay on Beard Haters. He might be an honorary Dwarf. Also, I read "Julian" by Gore Vidal not too long ago. Maybe I just like protagonists.

Wow, I just looked up Macsen on Wikipedia... he may merit a card anyway. Apparently he actually was made an augustus jointly with Valentinian II. I didn't know that. Also his grandson was one of the shorter-lived emperors (77 days).
