I've always liked the poem Ozymandias, it is straightforward, accessible and always manages to fill me with a sense of wonder. I thought it was neat when I heard Leonard Nemoy quote from it in the description of one of the techs in Civ IV.

Do Fiddler's Green next! If you want, of course. I started, but I'm not sure what happened to the paint file.

I should add that I'm not bashing anyone for liking it. I just prefer my poetry to have a bit of structure. The plum bit has this "I'm just sayin' stuff" feel to it.

Which is not to say that I don't appreciate some unstructured poetry. I actually like a lot of Stephen Crane's stuff ("because it is bitter, and because it is my heart") but I'm not sure I'd call it poetry.

Ozymandias is an awesome piece of writing, poetry or not.

Any experts on the Roman Empire willing to help with this? I'm going to try and make a full set, but I'll probably need people to tell me if what I'm writing is true.

Edit: Added a pretty pointless block of statistics. I'm sure it won't be that hard to write some sort of rules for a GAME WHERE YOU BATTLE ROMAN EMPERORS LIKE POKEMON

Oh yeah, I think there are like 85 Western Roman Emperors. And 88 Eastern ones. Or something. I'll probably do the Western ones first.

I had to do a research-notes thing on the Roman Emperors for a history class once.  A few dozen of the Emperors, especially the later Western ones, only "reigned" for a few weeks or months.  Many of the guys theoretically considered Emperor didn't even survive the title long enough to make it back to Rome.  The Emperors of the Eastern half on the other hand, any after about 600AD would be more accurately called the Byzantine Emperors, and probably not part of the series.

There's a lot of emperors you can skip over is what I'm saying.

Any game where I can have Caligula punch out Nero is a good game!

I only remember a couple:

Constantine
Claudius
Octavian

That's all I can remember, though you should remember, that although Julius Caesar was a big figure in Roman History, he wasn't an emperor, only a Praetor. In fact, he has offered the Emperor's Crown but he refused it. The only reason he was assassinated, ironically, was because the parliament was afraid he'd use his large popularity base to become Emperor, even though he made it crystal clear that he doesn't want to become emperor! What's doubly ironic is that his assassination set off a chain of events that crippled the republic and threw Rome into an autocracy under his Caesar's adopted son Octavian, the exact opposite of what was intended.

Thanks for the links, everybody. I get your point, Aqizzar, about a lot of those emperors. I'll probably include most of them anyway, though, since it'll add to the game. Probably.

I'm just doing the stats on a 1-10 scale, so yeah, Hadrian will have a 10 in something like defense. Trajan will be a juggernaut.

Do you think some emperors should have some sort of special ability?

Caligula can participate in beastiality at one quarter the cost of any other emperor.
