I might be connecting too many things, but I think the DONGS bit was a reference to the Penny Arcade forums.  Their gaming boards are replete with failed X-COM Let's Plays, and by Penny Arcade cultural tradition, the bases, squads, and everything else in the game is renamed after wangs, dongs, and cocks.

no. I was just bored, and figured I should update. So I made a joke one.

I thought it was funny until I realized how long it was and how much effort he had put into it. Then I thought it was just sad.

Okay, for real. Let's play X-Com: UFO Defense! I won't bother to write this one narratively and will instead explain what's going on for anyone who hasn't played.

The pictures are rather large, so let's put them in spoilers:

So we picked Allies.


And this is the main character we decided on. The first thing is, obviously,  our gender.
1. This is our nationality. We can choose American, British, or Russian. We chose the good ol' US of A.
2. This is our profession. We chose soldier, the main part of the team, but we could've chosen sniper, scout, medic, engineer, or grenadier.
3. This is our name. It has no real effect on the game, but we chose this.
4. These are our attributes. They determine our strength, dexterity, and intelligence. These decide how well we shoot, throw grenades, etc. Strength and dexterity are important for soldiers, and intelligence would be important for things like engineers.
5. These are our secondary attributes. They're just our ability to dodge, our AP (for moving and shooting) and our VP (for health).
6. These are our skills. They determine how good we are at those skills.

You can kind of see them in the middle of the screen, but they're pretty well-hidden.

Well, that's enough for now. Next time I'll show you the actual combat. To summarize: we're stranded deep behind enemy lines with important German documents and a wounded colonel. We have to get away with him and the documents at all costs.
