The item is actually described as "charcoal," and while it is definitely one item, all the bar items are more than one bar.  A gold bar item is described as "gold bars" for example.  A bar is a small item, and the "gold bars" item is simply 1/3 the number of bars needed to make a statue, table, or throne.

The separation of individual bars is abstracted out.  It's the same thing with logs.

But what kind of trees are we cutting down in order to create enough uncountable logs to fashion an entire table out of? Or door? Or bed? Or a wall of one tile? Or... uhh... 30-some bolts. Then again, trees are large enough to keep megabeasts from walking through their tiles...
