If it is a one tile hallway, they shoot.  You get what I mean, don't nitpick.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

What about a fiery moat?
If it really burns forever that could rather easily be done (just stockpile coal + bins)

Will objects fall out of bins if you fire them with your bridge-a-pult?

Like, 3 fps, if you were running at 60.  That type of kill. Maybe worse.

Ok, that means leaving it on during the night, which will not work since you will get pauze-stops when something idiotic as immigrants arrive, darnit.

you know, you could probably use this to stop a river or stream from flowing. just drop them into the water in a line across the flow, and if they evaporate everything that effeciently you can empty the river downstream of the point you throw them in. then dam it if you wanted, or just have your dwarves run around picking up all the suffocated aquatic life. if that works, then it is such a dwarfy way of fishing, even more dwarfy then filtering the ocean through an underground chamber full of grates. boil the river away and recover the charred edible things left over.

well the "ocean" is only the edge of the ocean on a 2x2 plot of land and it only took the complete death of my dwarfs twice with reclaim before i got the structure done. heres a pic the movie is to come of the droping and all that. im just letting it chill down there right now.

the bin is in the dark solid gray spot and as you can see there is a spot atleast 3 squares away that is marked as hot.

Hmm. Perhaps fat/tallow in an iron barrel would behave similarly.

maybe evaporating the ocean will require more than one bin, because you'd need to destroy the water faster than the water arrives from the map edge.
