Selling Land Claims To Micronations, good idea?
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:39:05 am »

Um. I know some people here like micronations.

But, micronations are easy to create. I mean, right now, I declare this "Selling Land Claims, good idea?" thread to be its own micronation, leading a secession war against the Various Nonsense board. There we go. A new micronation.

However, I have studied how micronations attempt to gain legit recognition from REAL nations. While my studies may not be...as good...as a REAL micronationalist, I still think I could use it to my own benieft.

So, here's the deal. I'm going to try and establish a "land claim", and then seek to bloster said "land claim" via recognition from organizations. I will then set up "autonomous provinces" within this land claim. You can basically give me money, and I'll give you your own autonmous province, allowing you to ride on my legitiminacy. Right now, the price I set for each "autonmous province" is $5, and the money I raise will likely be going to charity.

Right now, I know it's very easy to make your own micronation. But if you want some sort of semi-diplomatic recognition, even if it isn't much, then I guess you could throw money. I will warn you though, you get what you paid for.

History has taught is it's never a good idea to try seceding from good ol' USA.

Bah, Rough and Ready seceded for MONTHS until around July, when they wanted to celebrate July 4th (independence day for the US) so bad that they rejoined the nation.

I'm not leaving the USA. The land claim I'm making is in fact in some faraway place, away from the reaches of most nations.

It's not exactly IDEAL, mind you. But you get what you pay for. Assuming you actually want to pay $5.

Buying land isn't the same as buying sovereignty.  You have to buy that from the government.  Looking at the state of the debt, now is probably the best chance you'll ever get to do that one.

By "land claim", I also mean soverignity, altough actually buying land and having legal title grants you an ability to claim soverignity (not indepedence). I just need to know if there is interest towards people buying soverignity from me (so that the money can go to charity, of course. *sighs*).

No it doesn't.  Buying land from a private entity doesn't change the nations claim on the land in any way shape or form.  They are different forms of ownership.

Note that I said soverignity, not indepedence. Soverignity means that you are able to rule yourself. You are still paying loyalty to the government, but you have some autonomy.

Also, I said its grants you the ability to claim. Nobody will ever treat the claim seriously. Take a farmer seeceding his farm. His act is illegal, yes, but at least he owns the farm. It would be far more stupid if you got a average kid claiming the entire Eastern part of Miluawake or somebody claiming Long Island, when neither people actually own any title to Miluawake or Long Island. Basically, I'm stating that owning a piece of paper is at least better than not owning said piece of paper.

Sorry.  I already have such a claim on the entire world.  I bought it for a million billion dollars... from myself.

The sales taxes were killer on that transaction.

Worse.

By the way, I'm cancelling this plan. I just realized how stupid it was.

Unclaimed land in international waters is up for grabs, isn't it?

Go build some artificial islands. There's some great real estate to sell.
