Is There A Way To Find World Seeds?
« on: February 19, 2009, 09:32:54 am »

Hi all,

I recently found my personal perfect site. I embarked and all was going well untill I suffered from the eternal sleep bug and had my whole fort die. I tried reclaiming but theres something about reclaiming I really dislike, anyway the question is:

Is there some way to determine the seed of an already generated world so i can start over?

If it is the last world you generated the "generate new world with parameters"-screen will show the used seeds (40d at least).

There is a way. When you export local maps (ESC -> export local image) it will give you BMP files of your fortress and and a few .txt files. One of the .txt files will contain your worldgen parameters, including the seed.

Hi!

You can also export the normal (not the detailed!) map from the Legends mode in order to get the information with the seed.

However, I am wondering about something: You said your fortress died because of the eternal sleep bug. As far as I know, that bug has been fixed and is no longer an issue with 40d ...
