My liaison never showed up!

He didn't show up and die. He just never ever came. 3 years in to the fortress and I've never seen him.

The caravans still come every fall.

Will this affect my ability to attract nobles and/or the king?

Could be, you are the king. Maybe your civ is so far gone you are the 2nd only fortress left

I have the same problem with my fort. And I've been having problems getting nobles (haha right?) Anyhoo I'm at 130 pop with my only arrived noble being the dungeon master( i like him cus he does stuff) and the philosopher. Where is my baron?

Could it have something to do with the fact that I'm in the middle of a hunted tundra?

Actually, that may be it. I think migrants actually move around the world? They could be killed before showing up. Noble can't fight, can they? I remember a story of a guy who visited his fortress in adventure mode and found the dwarven caravan one T tile away, covered in goblins and containing his traded items.

I don't think the terrain affects it. I have a pretty normal mountain with forest. I'll see if any nobles show up over time.

Did you check the 'c' screen?  Look under your civ and if you have a message "this civ has no important figures/leaders" or something along those lines, the civ is dead and you'll never have a liaison.

no, i have a  leader (my ruler is a titan drunk...) as well as a mayor of another fort, but those are the only two.

Better then mine, that came and killed himself (he was lacking serveral limbs and just kinda withered in agony for a year or so...

So eventually I discovered adamantine and my king showed up, along with the dungeon master.

Liaison has still never showed.
