Well, first the party decided to go find some armor, since only a couple actually had any...

But quickly discovered that they only have 10 groschen and 11 pfennigs (that's 131 pfennigs overall!) to their name.  Not a single florin among them!  Not a very well funded expedition after all.  Gary is very upset.  He was told there would be money, and he's completely unarmored!

Well, let's see if Elmo can buy any alchemical formulas...He has the smarts, but no recipes to work with.

Nope.  Not going to happen.  One florin, after all, is 20 groschen...or 240 pfennigs.  Well, maybe we can at least learn about a new saint?

Hey, we can spare a groschen!  Zubmeh is going to learn about St. James, who will help us out if we're ever in Spain.

Okay, now it's night time.  Well, we've got our mission, but we haven't seen any action yet.  One of the reasons we came to this town was because they had a thug problem...  Lowlifes stalk the street at night, mugging innocent townsfolk who fear to leave their homes.  The fastest way to make a name for ourselves is to start pursuing these thugs.  Not very glorious, but glory can start tomorrow.  For now, let's make Hannover safe again!  We'll start by the docks.

OSHI-- That was fast.

Well, the enemy are wielding falchions, but they have crummy armor and bad skills.  They're just not expecting a fight.  Gaweir, Elmo, you two will soak up the blows...Nobody else has armor!

Elmo and Gary got a little banged up, Gaweir just barely, but not nearly as bad as the other guys!  Plus, Elmo learned a thing or two about shivving thugs in an alley.  First, let's see what we got for loot...

And hey, it seems they like us!  Our local fame is up to 12 now:

Let's hunt some more thugs, then call it a night.  Elmo needs to hang back a bit more, though.  Zubmeh and Gary can use some of the armor we swiped...those thugs aren't using it anymore.

Next fight was more of the same, and Zubmeh learned to club people a little better.  No injuries of note.

Let's get some rest and then start looking for better work...

Anyway, now that we're rested, let's see about getting some quests!  Sometimes the banks have quests that need accomplished, so let's check out the Fuggers.

Looks like we've only got a fair chance of success...

Wow, shot down.  Must not be famous enough.  How about the Medici or the Hanseatic League?...No, when we checked there, we guessed we had a "Very Poor" chance of getting a job, might as well not waste a couple of hours.  Anyway, let's go check out some local merchants and foreign traders.  It's a good idea to have supplies like rope on-hand.  And just sometimes, you get lucky...

Heidelberg?!  Geez!  That's way to the south of us...  Well, we never SAID we'd take the job when he threw it at us, we're just keeping it in mind.  But in the absence of other tasks, we could start heading that way.

Before we leave, let's head over to the Stadthalle and chat with the local leader, with the help of a little divine favor.

JEEZ.  I don't know if we're ready to take on a Raubritter.  This Tassilo fellow sounds a little scary.

What's Next?

Well, we've got a few options from here.  We can go for Heidelberg and try to find these prayer books, which may or may not exist.  We could go after Tassilo Alt, but that would involve fighting several patrols of experienced soldiers, around eight at a time, before finally taking him on and we're frankly not very well equipped.  We could keep patrolling the streets here for a while...Or we could do 'none of the above' and wander the countryside looking for who knows what.  Whether you're in the game or not, what do you think?  I'll pick this up tomorrow!

Well, Koln is on the way to Heidelberg I believe, and that's the single biggest city on the map in this time period.  We could hit up some other cities, in hopes of other jobs...

Then again, we could also start searching for villages and keeps that are sinning against God.  Never know.  We might find one.

Just plain wandering the countryside is an option, if we want to stay away from civilization entirely.

As an outsider...I'd say looks for jobs on your way down to the hermitage. You might find some good opportunities on the way, and if that hermitage job turns out to be real you'll get a nice 5 florins out of it.

Well, nobody wants to stay in Hannover, and there's plenty of wilderness between the Awe-Inspiring Order of the Holy Cross and Heidelberg!  The tenative plan is to head south through the wilderness, searching for evil and helping the innocent along the way...And if we stumble across any other jobs, well, that's just a bonus!

The Order is off on its quest of going...somewhere!

Let's see what the wilderness holds.

That looks like a burned out village to the northeast.  Maybe there's still something we can do to help...or maybe the villains are still near!  ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS!

About halfway there, Elmo (our most perceptive member, not saying a lot) gets a bad feeling...

We are afraid of nothing, however!  Or at least, we're not afraid of things that aren't Raubritters.  Damned Raubritters.  But this isn't Raubritter territory, so Gaweir insists that we challenge whatever is out there!  Only a coward would sneak and not announce their presence.

Or a...spider?

OH GOD GIANT FOREST SPIDERS!!!

Upon judging our chances, we just don't have a chance of escaping!  We choose to meet the spiders head-on!

Or the spider.  Singular.

First, the young and healthy members (read: not Elmo) run up to charge the spider, then Elmo joins in from the side!  Everyone quickly discovers that their blows are doing little damage, and switches their tactics to slower strikes, seeking more vulnerable areas!  Gary is bitten!  He flips out!  But a single GFS is no match for four brave adventurers that have God on their side!

Gary also picks up some skill with edged weapons in the fight.  All in all, Gary is in decent health, but he keeps insisting that he never wants to fight spiders again, and as soon as he can, he's going to buy a crossbow or even just some throwing knives.  Gaweir congratulates Gary on his bravery though!  Gary starts to feel the pangs of actual heroism!  What a weird and uncomfortable feeling!

Now let's see what's in that village...

Did Gary start with any skills, like speaking skills or something?

Oh, and a crossbow sounds good.

Aha! All in a days work. If I had been riding the bastards down, I could have plucked the foul beasts off the ground with a lance, and the felled them quickly with my sword!

But all in all, we did a fine job. For the Cross! Onward!

Gary's character sheet is under a spoiler at the start of the game, midway in the second page.  I might move them to a more accessible place later.  He started out with SpeakCommon skill of 22 (not bad, really), Stealth and Streetwise of 29 (decent), and a virtue of...3.  Keep in mind that an average skill for a new character is usually around 15 or so, and the max is 99, at which point you're practically a saint yourself.  He's outclassed somewhat in speaking by Elmo.
