Civilian fear distance
« on: February 17, 2009, 03:07:24 pm »

At what distance do civilians get scared of creatures, I am designing an arena and i need to know how close the dwarves can get to the action. I know its about 5-10 but i want to have it as accurate as possible.

A test for this, for the experimentally inclined:

Code: [Select]
O is wall, . is floor, F is fortification, g is goblin.

O.OOO
O.FgO
O.OOO
O..FgO
O.OOOO
O...FgO
O.OOOOO
O....FgO
O.OOOOOO

Extend that, with each hallway to the goblin longer than the last. A dwarf should be sent through the hallway, starting at the end with the long corridors. The point at which the dwarf cancels their task is the fear distance.

It depends on the creature, too. Dwarves will get scared from only a few tiles away from mountain goats but might flee at the sight of a werewolf.
