It kind of reminds me of when furniture used to come with a tag that said, "do not remove, under penalty of law".  Of course, it was "illegal" to remove it, but who actually cared?

Well, if you sold that furniture in the future, how would someone know if that furni is actually in good condition? That's why it's illegal to remove that tag, since the tag reveals information about the furni in question.

I've been daydreaming for the longest time my ideal MMO that I personally think would be terrific fun. I wanna ask some more questions though before I elaborate on it.

How would you feel about having genuine command of a old-style sail boat, with realistic control (sways with strong current and waves, needs to move with the wind, giant and unwieldy almost, etc) where you and other players can sail, man cannons, move about the ship in real time, and perhaps attack other ships?

Think Half-life 2 meets Sid Meier's Pirates.

I don't know how close this is to what you're thinking, but there is a Pirate MMO called Pirates of the Burning Sea. You might want to look into it.

theres this possible sci-fi game (stardestiny.net) that you can do a lot in, made by a splinter group of SQO'ers (starquestonline.net), the SQ game got really.. well.. bad, graphics are pretty sucky, the main planet terra is super-uber laggy, should note it's basically a rip-off of Star trek and if you put star trek in the SQO forum it translates into 'That Franchise' in fact, admins are really bad as well, one admin is a senator person and once said that "The beating will continue until morale improves" In response to his harsh admin-ing. Stardestiny is currently under developement and needs python coders, c++ coders, and a gpa head. Register on the forums if you wish, your account will have to be approved. Contact danuis.rodriguez@gmail.com(via the google talk program, www.google.com/talk, you might need to get a gmail email account, dunno maybe you can use other ones.). Lastly we need modelers and textures, even if you dont decide to be in the project we'll need a player base once it's done ^^, it just recently started so it probably wont be done any time soon.
