Or you could grab a machinegun and a couple of AT grenades from the checkpoint (by killing them all).

And then kill everyone that comes.

God I couldn't even get past the first American Mission. Every time I pushed with armor the AT guns way in the Japanese back lines just demolished them. I couldn't get any infantry back there to take them out either without having to try and push past the sea of Japanese infantry and machine gun emplacement. That is until I noticed the Naval Bombardment call in.

They're still cleaning up pieces of those poor Japanese soldiers.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

I don't really like AS for some reason. I can never get a decent foothold, the trash mob that always gets thrown at me breaks my back (1 armored car and a couple squads of riflemen? Bullshit)

grab a squad with at least 1 at rifle and problem solved. Assuming he can stay alive long enough to fire that is.

I was always one for turtling, and turtling is hard as hell when you have a jadgpanther just out of range of your Shermans putting some nice big holes in your defenses.

I decided to give AS a try again. Once I learned how to defend myself (couple tank destroyers + the MGs that come with each captured point = good luck getting by me!) it was actually a lot better than the original MoW game. My favorite nation is the USA, for the paratroopers. You can pull together squads of those guys and do some really nasty damage behind enemy lines. At first, I thought Japan's specials were kind of meh. The artillery is pretty cool, I used it for counter-artillery on howitzers that basically owned anything that stepped within their quarter of the map (they were part of the group guarding the victory point) and they were pretty awesome, until they took a howitzer shell to the face and were blown to literally nothing, along with the squad of special forces next to them. About halfway through the game, my squads were just mashups of standard infantry, whoeverJapan'sversionoftheRangersare and the occasional sniper. I had also noticed there was that lonely special ability, "Banzai." I never bothered to click it because it sounded boring, but when I did... Oh my GOD it was fun!

For those who don't know, you designate a location and 4 light tanks with 2 soldiers each and about 3-4 other soldiers behind each one file in through your side of the map and will do a death charge to wherever you painted. You can't control them, but they can work fine on their own. It's great, I kept calling them in (3:30 cooldown) and they zerg rushed the enemy to death. The light tanks never made it very far, the enemy had rather large AT guns, but the infantry kept going. My Men of War side was relieved to know "someone else" was helping me fight and my Dwarf Fortress side loved watching those soldiers march to their deaths over and over!

Eventually, the infantry broke through the defences, I claimed the last line and the victory point and the battle was won. Time to see what the other nations have as specials!

Part of me thinks that Japan's special is a bit op. Not because the units do any amount of damage but because you can just spam it over and over again, wearing down enemy forces while building your own. I used the charge a few times and then rushed along with one of them. It was one of the biggest bloodiest explodiest fights i have ever had in the game. It was awesome.
But uh, has anyone had trouble connecting to multiplayer matches?

Yeah, Japan's Skirmish special is OP. They get rocket artillery and a banzai charge that involves tanks. The only main units I'd bring in during that campaign were the half-track mounted infantry. They move really fast on foot, they have RPGs and they're up to their eyeballs in machineguns.

I haven't played any games in quite a while now, but I remember seeing a group notification on Steam saying a patch came out, hmm, last week I think. So just make sure you have the latest version of the game.
