I just don't understand how you do it. I can't micromanage at that speed, trying to get a squad that size to cover ends with them being shot because of a miss-click (and a subsequent suicidal charge to the wrong corner of the building) or them getting into cover, getting pinned down, and getting shot. I just can't control that many units at once, and almost all my single player games are won with patience, tricking the AI and one squad. That never works in multiplayer and every time I've played against a competent player I've lost, incredibly hard (although this is admittedly due to super heavy tank spam like you mentioned).

The problem, I guess, is I am ridiculously bad at this game, which sucks hard because I love it and want to have a multiplayer experience where I don't get pounded into the dirt the moment I try and take a point and then spend the rest of the match watching my units get gunned down by better commanded, better positioned units.

It's fun to watch, though.

the game isnt that hard, just remember to manually throw grenades, and the prone position button.

after you master those 2 abilities, you become quite hard to beat in multi early in the game.

especially if your the germans, with the MG42 in the squad, you can literally hold a flag point, against ridiculous odd's with a MG42 carrying single infantryman, with a grenade or 2. Till the poor man runs outta ammo ^_^

a well placed grenade can usually knock out most of a badly placed squad, and the mg42 can clear the rest when they pop their heads up.

What i know however, is that early game its not infantry thats annoying, its mortars, and you having to counter their mortars that are behind infantry in defensive positions.

This later game becomes more mortars, and then heavy artillery, and on the 2v2 maps i used to play on, artillery was a gamebreaker, since you could strike the entire map with it, so a newly spawned infantry squad or unit could get nailed right after it spawned and die :/.

so it then became a game of who had the bigger and more accurate arty :(

Turtling and relying on artillery in AS is a surefire way to lose. Their accuracy is worse than someone trying to shoot a mackerel in the pacific ocean from a hot air balloon in space.

Well since Hemmingjay is awesome I now own this (AS), haven't done too much with it yet, just the Skirmishes. Which are pretty fun in co-op.

Anyone feel like setting up a multiplayer game sometime?

I've always had some fun with the series, love the realism, but they've been so damn buggy and whatnot. Soldiers 2 was pretty good. Faces of War sucked. Men of War was a lot better. Assault Squad however is amazing, way better than vanilla men of war.

Good fun today, though I got my ass kicked in pretty much every battle.  Including that one where a rocket battery almost caused a huge rock to fall on my heavy Artillery. (The new crew promptly arrived and pushed the Artillery and Rock at the same time while reloading the gun.)

Too bad about that last game. So unfair teams. 5 experienced players vs 5 newbies. Durrr~

Also, like I said, artillery can't aim for crap. xD I was watching your super expensive artillery hit one or two guys each time you fired. :P And every time i fired my rocket artillery to try and hit your units, they kept hitting mountains and rocks and whatever.

Is it just me or is stealth impossible in this game? That's what's killing it for me

I do, but I figured the pistol shot was suppressed because my guns had suppressors on them.

Besides, same thing happens when I use a knife.

Yeah, that mission is probably the hardest in the game. Playing with two other guys in co-op made things easier, but it still took us over six attempts! We had the unfair advantage of being able to co-ordinate simultaneous knife-throwings. But really, what you need to do is watch out for the sentries and random patrols.

Click on an enemy soldier and you will see his vision radius. Avoid this radius. If a sentry comes across a fallen comrade, he WILL sound the alarm. What makes things hard is that the sentry will investigate noises (most likely the thud his buddy makes when you off him with a throwing knife) so speed is also an issue. You need to knife the sentry, then grab the body and haul it off into the bushes, or somewhere out of sight.

Using the silenced pistol isn't the best way to be silent, because what happens a lot of the time is the sentry will only get "wounded" by the pistol round going through a limb or non-vital body part. This might be what's happening with you. If a sentry takes more than one shot to down with the silenced pistol, then the alarm is going to be raised, because he's going to shout after the first shot impacts his body or sails over his head.

Throwing knives are your best option until you can get into a suitable defensive position to fight off all the goose-stepping jerks that come running out once the alarm is raised. And don't go throwing knives at sentries who are being watched by another sentry. That's another thing you might be overlooking. A lot of the sentries have someone watching their back. You need to wait until the rear guy is distracted before offing the guy in front. A lot of these guys won't be obvious though. For instance, you'll note there's a lot of balconies overlooking the streets. If you look really carefully, you might see a German or two you didn't notice before in one of those balconies. I believe there's a few Germans in a house too looking out the door, so you really need to rotate that camera around to look on your target sentry's area to make sure there's no eyes on him.

If there ARE eyes on the sentry you want to kill, then you need to figure out a way to remove those eyes at the same time. Patience will get you far. It's a LOOONG mission up until you get to the part where bullets start to fly. Anyways, good luck and godspeed! *salute*
