Ah yeah, I haven't played through all of that mission yet, so I don't know. If I remember correctly though, if people discover your presence Germans start to spawn from the buildings. I think. Can anyone confirm this?

They do, when the alarm is raised, which makes about 30-40 of them zerg you. But these guys are in a place I hadn't visited yet and nobody raised any alarms.

Odd. Sounds like a bug or something, which sucks. Or maybe just bad design.

Hey, in regards to the defense of Sevastopol, I actually found a lot of use for that coastal gun. I mean, it fires three times and there's a short time between shots during which you can reacquire targets, and the Germans came in groups of fifty men or three tanks. The first shot always missed but they were bunched together enough that I managed to wipe out everyone in the target area each time.

Maybe the RNG favors me, I don't know.

That's kinda what the gun is used for... Killing bunches of things and also the Karl Thor guns that come later. What did you think a hugeass artillery piece was intended to do? =P

Exactly that, it's just everyone seemed to be of the opinion that it was pretty useless. It kept my left flank from collapsing, I know that.

You got a ton of luck there. When I did that mission, I ended up doing everything myself because the coastal battery either overshot the target and landed offmap or fail to penetrate before exploding, where it damaged the tracks and occasionally blew up an infantryman who ran ahead of the tank.

Also, in the first mission of the german campaigns there are a few tanks that allow you to pretty much walk up to them and drop a grenade right ontop of them, which allows me to force evacuate the crew, take it and then repair it for my own use. The downside of these vehicles: They don't have any tracks installed. Apparently I'm not supposed to steal anything that isn't conspicuously empty with only a single pistol armed guard near it.

The canon in sevestapol isn't really useless IMO, I usually use it to blow up the heavy artillery that comes in later in the mission.

Also, Arsenal (The fucking Allied sneaking mission at the beginning of the campaign) is  very... very... very... frustrating... especially in co-op where you can't just save every 5 seconds and reload if something goes wrong. EDIT 2: Also, when the alarm is raised, a bunch of halftracks and armored cars filled with infantry come from off map... lots of them...

There's an insane playthrough where these two guys completely own that level, I might go search for it and see if it will help anybody here.

On a lighter note, luls during a co-op of that mission. Linky

By the way, for anybody who thinks the voice acting in this game is bad, you should see the voice acting in the game that came before this, Faces of War. Oh jees. They actually put effort into this compared to that game.

EDIT: By the way, one thing I find somewhat useful, is any time you have to move your men a somewhat good distance, hit the numpad plus button as they start moving and they'll reload as they move, then when they get to their destination they will have fresh magazines.

EDIT 3: This isn't the video I'm looking for, but have it anyways. I don't know how you'd manage to pull this off with fog of war enabled.

I've been thinking and can anyone confirm this? I think that any anti-tank weapon will only do any serious damage if it pierces the tank, because the tank is well armored enough that a simple explosion isn't going to shake it and it can shrug off shrapnel but if it's penetrated it'd rip apart from the inside. Even if that's really obvious (and it probably is, I know jack-shit about high-powered explosives) it does explain why the coastal gun battery only managed to damage a track that one time for you, Asehujiko, because tracks don't have much armor. Are you sure it didn't just land right beside the tank? Because that would probably explain it.

Correct. To damage the vitals of tank you will need the shell to pierce the armor. If it simply explodes outside and rains tank with shrapnel, it's not going to do any serious damage.

Occasionally you can shoot a tank several times with high caliber shells (maybe HE, but dunno) and you will get the "hull crushed" status, which is essentially the same thing as "hull destroyed" except with no penetration.

Weeeee, beat the Russian campaign. That was the most fun I have ever had with an RTS, ever. It was pretty awesome.

I sorta wish I could have taken Berlin, but I can see why that mission wasn't in there. I mean, the studio's Russian and the capture of Berlin was not Russia's most noble moment.

That, and they had already done that in Faces of War.

I have the Faces of War mission pack, but all the missions are fucking tough as nails. I could probably find the download link for it, though.

They already did that?

Is there a button for raping and murdering thousands of civilians?

Seriously, if it was just the storming of the Reichstag or something I'd understand but it's a RTS, I'd assume it's about taking part of a city, right? There were civilians all over the place; how'd they make the mission be specifically about Nazi killing? I'm not outraged or anything, I'm genuinely interested.

I don't believe the mission had any civilians. It's actually one of the smaller missions map-wise, but it still takes a crapton of time to actually get to the choppa... I mean building.

Sounds like they made the combat occur in a small area. Makes sense. That answers that question.
