The teacher thought I had Asperger's because I didn't really get on with the students and was smart

WHAT!?! While Aspergers does have a high gifted rate it isn't intelligence based. Not every child who is socially inept has a problem.

Though I can understand why the teacher did so... a lot of conditions are noticable as early as childhood.

Precisely it, someone with aspergers doesn't get what most people will learn society on subconscious level. They need to be told outright.

Well more specifically they don't catch on naturally. When they act appropriately it will usually be because they found an entirely different method of doing so, or imply trained (or they arn't socially inept in that area)

For example one kid who has Aspbergers used to hug his family for uncomfortably long durations and was considered Quirky for it (they didn't think much of it... he was family and family usually does stupid stuff to you) eventually when asked about it the kid responded that he did it because that is how they treated him when he was younger and assumed that it was the appropriate response. He was told it wasn't how you do things and he stopped ever since.
-The kid generally didn't like being touched. So he assumed hugging until people became uncomfortable as appropriately family.

I see no relevancy of the picture to the topic...
It's an Internet celebrity (formerly a game developer or something) famous for his claims of having Asperger's and strange theories.
Apparently people here haven't heard of him...

Derek Smart?

Anyway, in first grade I was way ahead of the other kids in everything but gym.  I was terrible at gym.  The teachers diagnosed me with sensory integration disorder(Which I'm pretty sure they made up right there) and until 8th grade I had an IEP and I had therapy until like fourth grade.

It was lame.

What they meant was... Is it took you time until you realised what you were seeing and hearing infront of you. (That is my guess)

Derek Smart?
Similar, Cleve Blakemore.

In my eastern European far away country we don't get all these fictive disorders, when you're bad at gym, you're just bad at gym.

Now that's a way to live.

I wish we were like that.  Everyone's special.  Everyone has something they're good at, and everyone finds something good about everything.  Whatever happened to just hating something?

I get so pissed off when I'm discussing something stupid with a friend and they're like "Well, yeah, but THIS part of it is pretty good"

No.  It either rules, or it sucks.  You can't be wishy-washy here.

I know you didn't mean it the way I am gonna take it, but you inspired me to rant.

I am so fed up with the "Everyone is special and good at something!" crap. I'm good at a ton of crap and suck balls at another ton. I'm special for that? No. I'm special because I am the smart Ukrainian guy that studies theoretical physics as a hobby. But I know some people who are literally good at nothing. Even if they are good at something, they wont be able to do that something.

I consider the Chronic Laziness Syndrome to be a much worse affliction that carries a much worse social stigma. I mean, if you tell your boss something inappropriate you probably won't get fired if you have Asberger's. However, if you fail to do a work task you will get fired no matter how many doctors have diagnosed you with CLS.

Well that should be obvious :D

Someone with Aspergers may say something innapropriate but will get his work done (well hopefully)

Someone with CLS won't say anything innapropriate (well hopefully) but won't get their work done.

Bonafide occupational requirements trump special needs... Everytime!

My brother has been diagnosed with high-functioning autism.

You said yourself "You could speak to people with high-functioning Autism and never know they have it. It isn't an overwhelming disability and many people can live normal healthy lives almost unhindered from it."

My point exactly. Of the three or four people I know who have been diagnosed with HF-AS, I would never have guessed they had a mental disorder. What, then is the illness? If you had, say, high-functioning mild benign Gigantism, wouldn't just be easier to say you're tall?

Also, let me make it clear that I realize that there are people who actually have Asperger's Syndrome. These people have measurable disadvantages and need support and help. All of my statements refer to High-Functioning Asperger's Syndrome, which has been overused on healthy but un-normal people.

There is no such thing as a mild benign Gigantism. Gigantism causes abnormal growth well beyond the age of 18, and so, in the worst cases, people can end up being 8 feet tall. Gigantism causes a whole host of problems aside from the abnormal tallness, muscular problems, organ problems, high blood pressure, weak bones, etc etc. It's easy to diagnose a kid with Aspergers, and the proper therapy at the right time can save them the grief of having to learn every social signal, and every emotional que, like I did. It's not an overdiagnosis, because if you don't act on it early enough in life, it's going to severly cripple the kids development later on.

The point was that "mild benign gigantism" would be a pointless diagnosis, the same way high functioning autism basically isn't a medical condition as much as it is a personality trait.

Just my stupid opinion, but I do work in the medical field. Autism is real, Aspys are not. you either have a learning disability or your dont. If someone said you have aspy then they think you are not as bright as them, and some people are idiots or emotionally stunted but who is someone else to judge? because im not an einstein or outgoing like jim carey doesnt mean im diseased. call it what it is, quirks are quirks, idiots are idiots. if a person wants to fixate on a certain subject thats normal. i fixate, i just dont talk about it to people, dont you fixate?
2nd, ADD and ADHD is fake. the pills give you an edge in concentration tasks but its something you can do on your own with practice. how many people sit still for 5 hours and focus on a single task these days(other than DF)? its a learned behavior. Its like saying losers in an olympic race need steroids because they had a slowness disease.
C. Also, FYI, the drugs for ADD will pop your heart like a zit after 10-20 years of use. say hello to ED and blindness.
Depression is real and it is a legitimate - killer disease, no matter what its cause.
No real data on Fibro mya, but I would be concerned if i had a disease that the docs had no answer for, it might be misdiagnosis of something else.
i know im repeating a lot of points previously made, but i hope i said something flameworthy nonetheless.

No, "being a fatass nerd" is not actually a disability

I'm of the admittedly undereducated opinion that the majority of self-diagnosed Asperger's sufferers aren't truly handicapped in any way.  I'm also glad to hear about Yanlin pumping iron, that's pretty cool.
