Worker(dwarf) of the month
« on: February 16, 2009, 11:31:43 am »

I'd like to nominate Monom Cerolgembish, Herbalist.
For exceptionally dwarven spirit and effort surpasing standard.
For working in blazing sun and through rains of elven arrows.
For keeping on trying to haul stuff with a punctured lung and not confide in the dwarven health care.

But i must say all the reports of him falling uncounscious all the time is getting annoying.

I'd like to nominate Soapy, the one-armed, one-legged soapmaker.
For perservering after he was maimed by batmen on two seperate occasions.
For standing guard by our entrance, even without armour, a weapon, or two eyes.
For going out in a magma soaked blaze of glory against the goblin onslaught single-handedly.

But I must say, making a tomb made entirely out of soap is hard.

Urist, retired wrestler.
Promoted to the royal guard due to his spinal injuries.
Assigned to begin practicing with a crossbow at the same time the goblins invaded.
While not wearing any armor at all, he wanted to begin practicing right that instant.
He bravely entered the field of battle, ahead of the seasoned champions equipped with masterwork plate and war hammers.
He retrieved that lone *goblin bone bolt* laying on the ground.
He was set upon by three full squads of goblins!
His crossbow was wrestled away and he was stabbed through the gut with a sword. Urist pulled that goblin scimitar from his own body and hacked several goblins apart.
After being stabbed through the chest with an iron spear and having his own sword stuck in a goblin, he pulled the iron spear from his chest and proceeded to slaughter a dozen fleeing goblins.

Unarmored, untrained, and alone, he managed to single handledly defeat three goblin squads. Urist then returned to the archery range to fire off a stack of practice bolts before laying down for a nap.

I had to have a dwarf pull the second iron spear impaled through his leg while he was napping.

I nominate Thikut Adrasdatan (Seerirons)

For singlehandedly driving off a goblin raid party who had managed to sneak across the death bridge, despite having the barest of skills in combat
For providing every single wooden bed, barrel, bin, and wooden spike (To defend against goblin raiders) for my fortress.
For tirelessly cutting down nearly every single tree in a heavily wooded area
And for crafting my first artifact, a wooden door which now is the main entrance to my fortress proper, and has kept all my relaxing dwarves happy and content.

I'd like to nominate Degel Zaslogem (Degel Crystalpaint)

For losing both feet, both arms, and a lung in combat with a herd of macaques.

For persevering, and succeeding in massacring every last one of them.

For laying in bed for eight years.

For waking up in the middle of a goblin invasion, crawling to the front gate, and biting the hands off of four legendary goblins before the military could rescue him.

For making bone crafts constantly for the next two years without any appendages.
(presumably a bug)

For being engraved into every tile of the barracks, as a reminder to how dedicated my warriors SHOULD be.

I'd like to nominate "Noobcakes"

He is a legendary ranger, and rapes every single unfriendly nonentity.

He saved a Dwarven baby from being seperated from it's Mead Barrel, fucking Humans.

It cleaned the nearby magma pipe.

It also stole the clothes of many elves.

He also supplies the meeting hall with carcasses for the Butcher.

And that guy has never gave up the chance of hauling corpses either.

He also killed five rampaging Dwarves, thirty two Elves, sixteen Kobolds, and at least thirteen Gnomes.

And if it weren't for him, we wouldn't have any Canine Guardians, hell, he is the first one!

hmm, I haven't been playing enough to have any incredibly epic dwarves but i'll throw out:

Imush the Legendary Speardwarf

for being the toughest drill instructor ever, fatally wounding 3 dwarves put under his command, and permanently crippling another.

do not spar with this guy.

I nominate Zefon Thobzansong, miner.

For he breached the final wall to fill my magma trap and sacrificed himself in the process to protect his fortress, his steel pick, the only reminder of him, still floats around peacefully in my magma trap, ready to impale unlucky gobbo's/elves with the next magma release.

Not exactly a very epic dwarf... but sweet nonetheless.

I nominate a maggot. In my military, trainees start out as pump operators and stone-smoothers (lets face it, one legendary engraver who does not haul objects is much faster than a herd of idiots). I call them maggots.

This girl was the last trainee accepted in my maggot military program.

With less time, she became "Unbelieveably Agile" and "Unbelieveably Tough" and "Very strong", while all the other morons were either tough, strong, agile, or none of the above.

Within time, I accepted another, just so she could have a sparring partner. It took another two years before the last of the idiots assigned to the maggot program even got close to her level. I handed them both iron shields, swords, and full chainmail armor, and let them spar.

Not five minutes after the other was accepted, my legendary miner(I believe he was as strong, tough, and agile as you can get), entered a fey mood. I couldn't get him the supplies he wanted, and he went on a murderous rampage... that didn't last long. I stationed the girl outside of the mason's workshop, for several seasons. Had her carry food, and sleep on the ground. She never got unhappy. As soon as the miner went berserk, she walked up and sliced off his head. She never got harmed. I renamed her from "Conscript" to "Hero". (At first, I let the miner go. He killed ten people. I re-loaded, and stationed her outside. She saved ten dwarven lives. She deserves the title of "hero").

Another season later, my fort was seiged. I stationed her outside my still-unfinished series of cage traps, and she held off an entire seige by herself. She was swarmed by goblins of all types, and killed enough to break the seige. Sadly, she was killed in the process, and the other moron went to have a drink while she was left defending the entire fortress... alone.

A later seige, I captured 19 goblins and a human. In cages. I decided to build an arena. I have a platinum statue and coffin, containing her bones, in the center of the arena. Now, anytime a "conscript" wants to become a "soldier", they must kill a fully-armored goblin. Or two. Or three.

I nominate Stakud Mosusastesh, aka "Fishssassin" Roomcudgels.

My underground river was plagued by all manner of skeletal aquatic creatures.  They were hardly a real threat.  They were, however, a serious nuisance, hampering my fishing, pumping, and health care efforts.  As they rarely left their map edge, I was unable to lure them into weapon traps.

Frustrated, I resolved to employ my almost fully-trained pair of marksdwarves to eliminate them.  I knew it might not be the most elgant solution, but it was the only one I could see, and given enough time and bolts, you can solve most any problem. Thus, I mined out a tunnel  right next to their hang-out (but naturally one z-level up) and stationed my marksdwarves on that ledge.  As it was a long walk, my first marksdwarf got thirsty halfway and turned around to go do some keg stands.  Stakud, on the other hand, went to the ledge, fired off the last +Goblin Bone Bolt+ in her quiver, and proceeded to jump into the river and finish what she started.  Eight skeletal olmmen, eight skeletal frogmen, seven skeletal snakemen, five skeletal lizardmen, and one skeletal giant olm later, she was victorious, had gone from untrained Hammerdwarf to novice, was scratch-and-dent-free, and was merrily treading water.  She continued to do so dutifully until a miner arrived to carve her an upward ramp.  She then swam the couple tiles to the ramp, climbed out, and went straight to the archery range to continue her training.

Mosus Steamclasped.
For getting out of the wagon ad having his head battered by a ratman.
For spending a long and worthless decade in bed.
For eventually waking up and being drafted.
For dying the second he ran out into the battlefield.

Planty, the Grower
For running in between two super-powerful modded Goblins that had just killed or maimed my entire millitary, picking up the most important and best trained soldier and running back into my fort moments before it was sealed, saving my adept hammerdwarf from certain death. Then proceading to feed my entire fort for the rest of his life singlehandedly.
