Both. A whip could attack the g in the following instances (zefie tile is the whip user)

However, the whip sucks if someone can close and attack with it, so keeping a buddy in front is preferable.

For clarification, I'm going to modify the rules a bit.
Each turn, a player gets several (determined by wieght) minor moves and one major move.

Minor moves:
Move a space, pick up a light item, drop an item, give an item to a teammate, wield weapon, put waepon away, examine object.
Examine an object would give you a breif overview of an object within six spaces.
For eample:

The zefie looks at the armor stand and sees that it is made of jet and has some sort of breatplate on it. The breastplate is tarnished with age, but looks sturdy.

Major actions:
Attack, shoot, work mechanism, examine closely (for traps, objects may be trapped as well), defuse trap, pick up heavy object, break down door, ect.

You can do pretty much anything you want, although I won't tell you the odds unless you are a human (want to try to kick the wall in? feel free to try).

I'll change the rules at some point in time, but not right now. Once we get one more person, I'll update the map and the first turn can start. Late comers will just enter the ruin a turn late.
