Oh yeah. The obvious World of Warcraft.
:o
I didn't know anyone else here played that.

I...don't. I was just mentioning it. <.<

But I do have friends that play it. They used to be addicted to it, so it's probably pretty good.

And you are completely confusing "Fun" with "Addicted".

I play World of Warcraft.

It's not nearly as bad as people think, although they've been watering it down quite a bit.  The cartoonish style is starting to go away it seems, Pauldrons aren't as bulbous and oversized, armor in general seems more modest.

They've been making it really easy to level to 70.  It just makes the last ten that much more of a chore.  It's like sprinting all the way through a long race and then suddenly finding that the last ten yards are filled with a solid block of molasses that you must pass through to win.

(all links to wikipedia - which in turn provides more links)
TBS:
  • As mentioned before, ROTK series is superb - especially for KOEI fan. With your new gear, you could easily run the newest XI'th installment. However, in my opinion the X'th one was superior, mainly due to more conservative graphics. On the other hand, it's extremaly difficult to get it, as even the KOEI itself is not selling it anymore. And it was never fully translated into english, apart from fan-patches.
There should be no such problems with the XI though.
  • Europa universalis has reached third installment some time ago, but maybe you've played it already? Anyway, similar game: Hearts of Iron 2, same developer, similar mechanics, different setting, equally challenging and fun. Try playing Poland and conquering Germany. Or invading USA with your Japanese marines.
  • HOM&M V same old game with a few more details added, few tweaks here and there, and graphics well suited for your new rig.
RTS:
  • Medieval 2: Total war. If you liked Shogun, you'll love this, obviously, as it delivers more of the same good stuff. Plus eye candy.
  • I second Sins of Solar Empire. The game is both great fun and very pretty.
RPG:
  • The Witcher - linear, real-time combat, great storytelling, refreshing, serious, very pretty.
  • Never played Oblivion, but everybody seemed excited about it.
Adventure:
  • Ooh, if you're a serious fan of adventure games, then The Longest Journey is a must! It's got such an amazingly well written story. Somewhat old now, but hey, it still looks excellent. Some of the locations are simply breathtaking. If one were to describe this game with a single word, then it'd be "magical" or "enthralling".
I did not play the sequel, but from what I gather(after reading some reviews), it's new take on gameplay mechanics left much to be desired. However, it was generally agreed upon, that the story was still top-notch and worth checking out, as long as you can stomach the many glitches.

TF2
L4D
(Team Fortress 2 and Left4Dead)

Also, Warcraft III is a good if semi-old one, if you haven't tried it yet.

Well... it's funny... I'm still waiting for my power supply CM 550 to arrive and don't have a working computer yet...  I'm SOOOO anxious.

So I ended up playing the only game I can play:
Ball Bullet Gun for the SNES. It's a difficult turn based strategy game from a top down view. You can easily download an English fan translation.
and was impressed by it.  It's pretty hard... I can't get the hang of it yet.  Beat the first 8 EASY levels but I'm having hell with the NORMAL ones.  If I don't move one character exactly to a safe spot i get slaughtered.
It would be pretty fun to play against another person... Is there a snes emulator that supports Online play?

Sim City 4 has a TON of good user content and modded stuff for it. Quite good, since you mention liking Sim City.

Yeah... I have Sim City 4 and played it a lot in my mother's house (were I lived some years ago and had a decent computer for a while).  It's hasn't lost any of the magic of 2000 and has a lot of great features.  The only burden is that you don't really see the necessity to fill the map with cities... It would be better to have wider map areas.  Oh! And the traffic system is a nightmare.... just as in real life.  ;)

I suggest Dwarf Fortress!

Well, I've made this post because I have bought a NEW computer after, let's see... one, two, three... NINE years and I want to enjoy it while I still can.  In March I start college and I doubt I'll be able to play much.
What I want is you to recommend me GREAT games of different genres for me to try because I've been out of the modern game world for too long.  I've been living pretty much on abandonware and low req freeware.
I will point you some of the games I've played and enjoyed so you can have some kind of guideline but feel free to suggest whatever you like.  I'm open to everything. ;)  Don’t suggest LCS or Dwarf Fortress though,  I will surely play them.

I Suggest you read the thread before posting  ;D

I knew this was bound to happen.  I promise that the first game I will "install" in my computer will be Dwarf Fortress.

I think that one of the older versions of ZSNES supports netplay, and I'd be down to play online with people. I haven't played in a long time, though, so I might get slaughtered.

Anyway, have you found the P90 yet? It's in that seventh mission. The one in the store.

Also, as a tip; use those Task Force guys in the missions with a noncombat objective, and use snipers in the can missions. You can use the sniper's special ability to take down the cans in one shot.

Until the HARD missions, most enemies aren't minmaxed for speed, so after a while you can usually judge what parts of cover are safe to hide in.
