How can people still not believe in the Holocaust?
« on: February 15, 2009, 10:48:53 am »

Honestly, I've just talked to a friend that I've known for a long time, and he started explaining to me for no reason whatsover on how the entire holocaust was some sort of conspiracy, and that the actual death toll was something around 600, as stated by some dubious official record.

I do not get how people can be incredibly ignorant about this event, and still find some way to support their claims despite the overwhelming evidence otherwise. This is making me lose my faith in humanity.

Moon conspiracy got debunked so they needed something else to jump on.

Stating that the moon landing was fake is one thing. But claiming that the holocaust is fake? That's just evil.

Wait a minute? They finally Debunked the Moon conspiracy? WOW! where?

Anyhow, claiming the Holocaust was fake isn't evil... It would be like me claiming that George Washington didn't go to Africa and slay half the population (Ohh and he didn't... Africa was delightfully free of George Washington who like to partake in a slave here and there).

The major issues I found with why the "Holocaust didn't happen" involve a lot of dumb things Britian did because of the Holocaust. So many of their arguements are based on "Britian isn't THAT stupid" which of course as we all know... Yes they very well can be.

Though mind you... the Holocaust is a myth in it of itself. Most people believe it is the largest (or even the first) Genocide in history... Which is laughably false. It is only marked as the most ORGANISED Halocaust in history... the most systematic.

My country is harassed because holocaust happened there, so what am I to say?

How I'm supposed to answer dumb questions like :
"oh you're polish? Do you still kill jews?"

My priority would be educating people that Hitler did it and not Poland cause that pisses me off...

If I were to say something 'bout holocaust itself, I was on numerous trips to death camps, my school rant about holocaust almost every year, and my opinion is still:

"Okay I get it, if it did happen then let's get this over with and stop whining, it's not like we will make germans plead for mercy by whining (no offense to actual germans, but I'm offensing neo-Nazizm movement right now)"

This person has the shadiest sources, he claims to get his sources from a Nazi German and doesn't trust Western sources because he finds them biased (the irony of it all). Everthing he told me could easily be written off as speculation or misinformation. Nothing is grounded in undeniable fact.

Ninja edit: how often does that happen to you rooster?

Wait he trusts a German for his info? Not saying he is lying mind you but some Germans weren't even aware of the Halocaust while it was happening and only found out post war when the allies forced them to visit concentration camps.

Anyhow, claiming the Holocaust was fake isn't evil...

I disagree.  Holocaust denialism is evil because the movement of Holocaust Denial is a hatespeech movement dedicated towards inciting violence.  Cavalierly facilitating that movement for no good reason is evil.  I imagine there are those who don't have evil intentions, "useful idiots" as it were.  But they are facilitating an evil movement.  IMHO, no good reason for holocaust denial has ever been advanced, so supporting such a movement is evil as well.

It's like the difference between talking about race and SAT scores at a meeting of educators versus at a white supremacy rally.  Highlighting the lower averages among minorities at a meeting of educators could be a call to positive action, to make education more meritocratic and less biased towards wealth.  Highlighting these differences among the supremacists would be a call to negative action, to reinforce hateful views and give people an excuse to do harm.

Arguments don't exist in a vacuum.  They accomplish something.  Holocaust denial is hatespeech and accomplishes an evil end.

Denying that the holocaust happened isn't evil. It's gratingly irritating, but it isn't evil. It's misguided.

Hasn't the current leader of Iran said that the Holocaust didn't happen? My history teacher always pointed that out whenever he's brought up in a lecture.

I'll give you a hint, this was not on the internet. If you spend enough time on the internet, you will hear everything, but when you bump into the person that you would trust your life with two years ago and he starts talking about this, then your are in trouble.
