Sell the cages to the elves.

Bonus points if the cages are made of flimsy materials such as copper, tin or pewter.

You may need to start up the HFS Ultimatum Arena, all you need to do is make a large ass hall filled with squads, and the marksdwarves are on the ground level, , just link up the cages at the dead-ended side of the large hall, and floodgates at the soon to be hazardous way into the fort, flip a switch, and the dwarves come in, and the caged HFS Demons charge to the other end, and it's name is really fitting, HFS ( Demons ) Ultimatum ( Potect, or die ) Arena ( Fighting place ).

One, yes I konw it is risky, but Ctrl→Alt→Del→'Close Df', before the fort collapses, or you may need to back-up the file.

Two, generally it is the only way to be entertained when the age has become the age of no powers ( no megas ) , no wars ( gobbos are tired, kobold are done ) , and the only thing tto do until the cut-off is too make big things.

Sorry, I think I was not clear:

My 40 legendary wrestlers made quick work of the 21 tentacle demons that came out, they're all dead already.

My cages are filled with their victims.

unfortunately the victims cant be saved. they seem too traumatized to look after themselves and will just stand and stare into space till they starve. at least as far as ive seen.

if you care about your captured victims, selling them to the elves may actually be the more humane thing, as elves with their love of all living creatures would, i assume, treat them all nice. currently in the game there is no way to try to help them out yourself, your dwarves wont even cart them to a bed if they are injured. though knowing the elves they will get upset about buying sentient creatures.

of course, if you dont care, just build all the cages in a public place and make it a zoo. or throw them in pits with captured goblins for amusement. or find dwarves who like elves or humans or whatever and put the cages in their rooms.

zchris:

Well, not exactly what I understood, I was under the impression they were torture victims.  But I accept your explanation just as well as mine.

Ooh, I've never reclaimed, and after this pretty much successful fortress, I don't know that I shall.  I think I'm gonna move on to a Hermit challenge next.

Your wrestlers subdued tentacle demons by wrestling them? That must have been epic.

I like the fact we are seriously discussing how to drop dwarfs off towers using  kittens as cushions.

They may have been armed with crossbows, but their primary skill was wrestling.  Now that you point out the ...epicness...of the feat, I suspect they punctured them with bolts then bludgeoned them with the crossbows.

Not really. Legendary wrestlers are almost impossible to kill, unless outnumbered. 1-on-1, though, they can kill anything.

I had a one tile wide L-shaped hall with the demons coming from the top of the L (about 8 tiles), then the defense force at the other end, the leg about 4 tiles long

XXXX <- wrestlers

Almost a perfect tactical setup for the wrestlers to be able to get into hand to hand combat.  There were doors there that prevented ranged attacks until the demons destroyed them, but by that time the wrestlers were all up in their faces with the hurting and the boom.

For reference, I think my casualties were 2 or 3 guys.  1 death, 2 still wounded and may or may not recover.  They lost 21 Tentacle Demons and one Demon.  And I so far have mined 464 units of Raw Adamantine, woot!

Build an Asylum for the poor people you captured. I suppose they need to be kept in their cages to be fed, but you could put them somewheres nice, perhaps with a waterfall and some engravings.
