IIRC, the FPS drain only happens if there is a locked door in the way. If you simply break the path, such as by using a channel and retractable bridge, there is no FPS drain.

For example, if you dump about 100 animals in a breeding pit and have a locked door be the accessway, your FPS will die. If you instead used a bridge over a channel and retract the bridge, you won't get the FPS hit as they will no longer keep trying to path out of the pit.

it's not just locked doors. i built a wall and i had still have a huge fps drain.
