Start it at an open magma square. Dead Magma Men give you a pile of ash. Ash can be used to build smelters and glassworks. I think you see where I'm going with this. The harder one is the anvil, which can't be created.

I think you see where I'm going with this.

You mean Fire Men, don't you? And are you sure it is gooing to end well? Anyway I just generated suitable area and am working on rules. I will post save and rules in first post today.

I'm in!

I tried to start something like this once: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=27922.0

I like your idea better though, less time to abuse certain industries and you can't embark with 200 sweet pod seeds.

And yeah, artifacts are pretty random unless you forbid everything but your most expensive materials.

And this is seriously hard because dwarves are fuckall stupid.

I manage to get some foodstuffs ready to cook - cook picks them up, hauls to the kitchen, time to go get a drink. Cook job cancelled because there are no items - they're tasked to be picked up. Food is hauled 2 tiles. New cook job. Cook picks them up, hauls to kitchen. Zzzzzzzzz. Cook job cancelled because there are no items - they're tasked to be picked up. Food is hauled 2 tiles. New cook job. Cook picks one up, hauls to kitchen, someone comes by and starts eating it. Cook job cancelled because item was destroyed. New cook job. Cook picks up item, hauls to kitchen. Cook job cancelled because item is now rotten.

Scumsave.

I tried this cca 12 times. Everytime traders brought at least one cheap pick.

Black bronze bars
Tower-cap wood
Tower-cap wood
Tower-cap wood
Tower-cap wood
cow cage (Tin)
Cloth Bin
Cloth Bin
naked mole dog meat
giant rat meat
jaguar meat
turtle
Plump helmet
cow cheese

No pick. No axe. Grr.

Hm. I almost suspected that game takes care of your mistakes and forces merchants to bring you basic needs you forgot to take.

Ok, next try brought a pick and some other stuff. Not as hard to accumulate a fair bit of wealth in 6 months as I thought.

End... "well"? Whatever that is. It will be FUN! and that is what matters.

There are many issues with this statement.

Hm ... I am not sure if this is irony or my gramatic still sucks. I wanted to say that Fire Men are indeed fun (in Dwarf fortress meaning).

Okay, I'll use this post as a log for everyone to examine the hardships and blunders of yours truly. But umm... I'm not starting quite yet.

How do I import file to play?

1) Download and unpack 40d vanilla version from bay12games.com/dwarves
2) Download save from first post
3) Unpack it in folder data/save. In this folder already is folder current, so you will have two folders - "current" and one from save archive.
4) Start Dwarf fortress and choose Continue
