Dwarves won't practice with crossbows

For some reason my dwarves refuse to train with their crossbow.
I have literally thousands of bone bolts, an archery range, crossbows.

The dwarves in question are multple legendaries with legendary in the Hammerdwarf skill.
Would that prevent them from training properly?

Also: I'm using the Civilisation forge mod.

Whats going on?

Edit: They also refuse to even pick up ammo

Have you switched their weapon to Crossbow in the military screen and made sure there was nothing assigned to their other hand?

I made sure.
they have the crossbows and bucklers equiped.

I've has this happen recently to me.  It took me a while to figure out that my archery ranges only work in one direction.  Check your targets to see if they're operating in the right direction.

They do. I had a random peasant test em out.

Odd. Nothing in Civilization Forge should do that, since I've never had any issues with dwarves not using the archery ranges.

They aren't on duty, are they?

Try having them go on duty for a bit and then take them off again.

Tried that already. Its like they refuse to acknowledge the archery ranges existance

Well, you could put them on duty and have them run around shooting wildlife. It'll take a while for them to level up, but it might drill into their heads that they're supposed to be marksdwarves.

They don't recognise ammo as existing either.

I've decided to leave them as hammerdwarves for now, since they just killed off an entire siege and all.
