If I had a microphone, I'd try to sing that.

Hmmm... Does the headphone trick work with newer headphones, I wonder?

If by headphone trick you mean plugging the line out into the line in and shouting into the headphones yeah it should work  - microphones and speakers are somewhat reversible.

However the sound quality will probably be very low and you might have to shout to be heard at all. It can't hurt to try though, you won't break anything by plugging your headphones in backwards so worst case nothing happens.

I have an idea for a tune to go along with that, but I bet whatever you have in your head is better. If you record yourself singing it, I'll see about putting together a guitar part, or something, assuming you don't mind me doing that.

Also, you need a percussion track consisting entirely of rock/glass mugs being banged on wood/stone tables.

Also, you can get a pretty decent microphone pretty cheaply. I got mine for 20 dollars.

The headphone trick ought to work with anything except noise-cancelling or other signal-processing headphones. But yes, microphones are definitely cheap. I currently use the one that came with the cheapo webcam my folks got me this winter so I could chat with them. :P It works.

Currently experimenting with Garage Band and a headset mic. Sounds pretty good.

This is exceedingly difficult, as I am not a dwarf, and am also of the nervous type who's unlikely to be able to sing loudly in anything but a soundproof room on a desert island.

EDIT, LADS:

I have one verse recorded with three "parts". Where/how should I offer this silliness up for download?

Youtube with an appropriate backdrop (preferably made from a recording of the game).

Try just googling "free file host" or something like that. You'll find something.

You can't write music, can you? I really just want to hear/see what the melody is supposed to sound like.

IT SOUNDS LIKE GREGORIAN CHANTING

Put some damn backbone into it, or go somewhere that you can actually use your lungs to sing.  Oh god that was creepy and depressing.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I'm hoping someone still has the mp3 of this song around.

Back in the day I was working on a school paper or something when I originally downloaded it, and it got left on repeat for a couple hours straight while I was finishing my paper.

I didn't listen to it since, and I've long since lost the original file, but every so often I'll still find myself singing it randomly, and when it happened again just now I figured I'd finally make a post in the hopes that it would still be floating around somewhere for old times' sake.

thanks!

Edit - and yes, I found this thread by googling lyrics to the song that I can't get out of head :(

Ooh ooh

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but
You're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

(Ooh, give you up)
(Ooh, give you up)
(Ooh)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)
(Ooh)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)

We've know each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but
You're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
