Dwarven Drinking Songs
« on: February 12, 2009, 04:27:49 am »

I wrote a non-metal drinking song to glorify Craftsdwarfs today. My head does that. It's a bit irish/piratey in tune. I may have to figure out something to do with it.

*words* = soloist/small harmony
~ = continued note

CHORUS

Who's to say that I should be,
That I should be a fightin' man,
Oh who's to say that I should fight
When I could be a CRAF-TER!
Who's to say that I should be,
That I should be a fightin' man,
Oh who's to say that I should fight,
That we should fight at all!

Who's to say that I should be~
*A great screamin' berser-ker*
When I could be~
*The lucky lad whose song gets all the girls!*

Oh who's to say that I should be~
*An e-lephant hun-ter*
When I could be~
THE LUCKY LAD WITH TUSKS UPON HIS WALL!

CHORUS

Who's to say that I should be~
*An al-ligator wrest-ler*
When I could be~
*The lucky lad with brand new leather boots*

Oh who's to say that I should be~
*An orc-beheading axe-dwarf*
When I could be~
THE LUCKY LAD WHO MAKES HIS SKULL A CUP!

CHORUS

Who's to say that I should be~
*A carp-crushin' mace-dwarf*
When I could be~
*The lucky lad who carves the fish filet!*

Oh who's to say that I should be~
*A kobold-killin' marks-dwarf*
When I could be~
THE LUCKY LAD WHOSE TREASURES BROUGHT HIM HERE!

FINAL CHORUS

Thoughts? Also, post your drinking songs.

This isn't getting the love it deserves.  Love!

It's about damn time somebody wrote a song for the craftsdwarfs.  Stupid soldiers get all the respect, when its the guys supplying the caravan that keep the fort going.  Great imagery and evocation with the contrast between the two sides.

I think it works great with an upbeat, rolling melody.  I swear when I sing it under my breath I can hear pipes banging in the background as accompaniment.  Maybe it's tankards clinking.  The point is, it sounds perfectly real.

Two criticisms though.  1) The references to orcs should be changed to goblins, to stay in line with Vanilla DF, for universality's sake.  2) The repeated "When I could be~" lines should have more words, to bring them out to the length and pacing of the other lines, so it's not just a bunch of dwarves holding on EEEEE for a half-bar.

I need a microphone.  We should totally record ourselves singing together.

No, I think that we should hire professional singers to do that.  ;D

I'd post my elf drilling song, but I was told not to at the threat of a hammering.

I may try to hammer together a recording, you'll see what I mean there. The "be~" is meant to underlap the line that follows it.

If I had a microphone, I'd try to sing that.

Hmmm... Does the headphone trick work with newer headphones, I wonder?
