Nature is indeed a product of previous generations.
What I mean is: aren't their experiences a part of who we are now? If I could just spell the word I could get some decent information. All I remember is that it's spelled "ep-uh-jee-gnome".

Translation from science speak: Twin studies have yielded no results.

Uncanny similarities are not good enough against massive difference.

If you want my opinion, both have an effect. Why is it always Vs? Can't we all get along? Nature AND Nurture? :D

No. The translation from science speak is, like I said at the beginning of the thread:  It's not nature versus nurture.  It's both together.  It's one of the first things I learned in this class.

Twins who are raised differently (Nurture) will be different people, but they will bear certain strange similarities to each other as well(Nature) that cannot otherwise be accounted for.  That's at least what I've learned the studies showed.

I share lots of similarities with a lot of people who have no genetic relation to me. Again, proof has to be conclusive. So far, no conclusive proof has been given.

In fact, humans share a fuckton more genes with monkeys, pigs and even fruit flies than we do with other humans. About 0.1% of our genes dictate how we look at behave. This includes skin color and such.[Citation needed]

Just to make this clear, every psychologist knows that it is a mixture of nature and nurture, but the debate is whether our personalities are ultimately decided by our genetics, or whether nurture can overide our genetics.

And don't say that case studies on identical twins have yeilded nothing, there is evidence to suggest that homosexuality is 50% due to genetics and 50% due to enviromental influences. People have more twins than you think (and even having twins is genetics.)

It's not so much that it's "a mixture of nature and nurture" as that nurture can't happen without the structures nature puts in place. The interaction and feedback loops between genes, the body and the environment are far more complex than can be captured by "nature or nurture."

Still, none of nurture, learning, or experience can take place without the bodies and minds that DNA builds. A brain has to be put together than can process experiences, before experiences can affect the mind. So I think there's a large degree of innateness in how we think and feel (it's no surprise, then, that emotions and many behaviors are universal to all human societies) simply because our brains and minds are laid out in a certain way, even if that way also includes a large degree of flexibility.
