Wedding? WEDDING!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry, I live in the US, where weddings don't carry any weight any more. It's more of a tacky, out-of-date formality than anything.

Just love'em and leave'em guys, that's all there is to it.

[neo-con]Well at least you're not gay.[/neo-con]

Actually, neo-cons probably wish all gays were more like you, then they could be right for a change.

It's not singles awareness day for me, but I'll likely spend the day creating a tower cap farm like Boromir. My car's in the shop and my reason for celebrating Valentine's Day and I are about a hundred miles apart at the moment.

It's my second Valentine's day, with the same girl. (Go me!)  I'm going to visit her this weekend since she lives on the other side of the country, and will probably get her some cutesy fluffy present just because.
I feel like a jerk, really.  Buying her gifts from the store all the time while she goes out of her way to sew me up a giant A'Tuin plushie for christmas. http://tiny.cc/YXuri
Valentine is a very commercial holiday, but I don't mind now that I have someone to share it with.  Any reason is good to give your love a present, so why not a designated holiday when gifts are easier to find?

Chocolate allergy? You mean, nut allergy?

Well, to make a short story long...

She's had a very bad reaction to dairy products since childhood, and had to avoid them lest she re-enact The Exorcist. This extended to milk chocolate.

Her "allergy" (more of an inability to digest milk stuff, though I've been told it's not just lactose intolerance.) has decreased in recent years, such that a bit of cheese won't make her violently ill. After 20+ years of avoiding chocolate though, she's more or less against ever having it again.

Not really.  Both sides of my family are pretty poor in the divorce department.

I see that last line of your post and feel sad.  It just sounds sad, like something someone would say after years of having bad relationships.

I guess its something of singles awarness day to me, although I recently met someone I probably wouldn't mind going out with. It really boils down to whether or not I could get myself to ask her, and deciding on whether or not it will ruin our friendship if I do.

It's coming. Are you guys planning to do anything?

I always found this day really strange, socially. Especially when *I* receive chocolate... it's like... "do I give one back!? Do I ask her out? What the heck do I do? Why did this guy give me chocolate?! Why do guys keep hitting on me?! Damn you French-folk!"

So... you guys see it as something to look forward to or as Singles Awareness Day?
Somewhere in there you switched from being a guy to being a girl...

I am not a big fan of this holiday because my girlfriend's birthday is... February 19th... Not too grand, considering I have to plan two things in a row.
That just gives you all the more planning fun, think of gifts that span the days between them :)

It depends. Are you more interested in having her as a friend? Or would you rather be going out with her?

Occasionally, you can just ignore a "No, I will not go out with you,"  but, hey, I don't know how it is. Just ask her and find out.

What do you really have to lose? If she's a good friend, and wants to stay friends, it'll be fine. Do it! Ask her! Right now! Why are you still sitting around reading this?!?!?!

Ah yes, take advice from a faceless stranger who spends his spare time simulating a fortress full of moronic bearded alcoholics who will go into battle clad in vomit-streaked tatters and use their own infant young as shields and projectile weaponry.  Life choices are often best decided with the help of such wise counsel.

But to be perfectly honest, I'd have to agree with his general point.  I wouldn't bet on a maintained friendship afterwards, but it's going to hurt you a lot more not to do anything about it than it will to go for it.

Also, to milk-allergy man:  DUDE!  Buy some friggin' dark chocolate.  It's not that hard to come by, and I actually think it tastes better than milk chocolate.  Also, if you're in the states, look around for "Silk" brand soy-based ice cream.  The stuff is absolutely incredible.  Again, I prefer it to the milk-based ones.
