Valentine's
« on: February 10, 2009, 10:40:50 pm »

It's coming. Are you guys planning to do anything?

I always found this day really strange, socially. Especially when *I* receive chocolate... it's like... "do I give one back!? Do I ask her out? What the heck do I do? Why did this guy give me chocolate?! Why do guys keep hitting on me?! Damn you French-folk!"

So... you guys see it as something to look forward to or as Singles Awareness Day?

Somewhere in there you switched from being a guy to being a girl...

I am not a big fan of this holiday because my girlfriend's birthday is... February 19th... Not too grand, considering I have to plan two things in a row.

He was saying that he feels awkward and weird when some guy gives him some candies. Because of the vague potential homoerotic overtones that aren't there, but they might be.

No. Guys literally give me, a guy, chocolate on Valentine's day. I think there's some sort of conspiracy somewhere because I'm not pretty enough to be advertising gay vibes.

Well, how do you know that they're gay? Maybe they have extra chocolates lying around, or something.

Are you in highschool?  If you are, they might be doing it for a laugh.  When I was, there was this group of jackasses who knew as well as anyone how annoying awkward and, more importantly, hard to explain it would be to get hastled by gay guys.  So they would act like flaming homos to get a rise out of people, and you couldn't do anything about it because there was no way to describe it without looking like a tool.

Maybe it wasn't an act, but it was still damn irritating.

I'll be working until 2 AM!
And making lots of money!

Maybe I'll send my sweetheart (who brutally rebuffed me the last time I asked her out) some daisies. Possibly.

I'm a lazy fat slob. So I eat all the chocolates. Finding a proper girl in this country is damn near impossible. My standards are too high. But I'll drive a stake through my brain before I'll lower them.

I could go on how this is a capitalistic holiday despite any religious overtones there may have been in the past, but screw it. Valentines is a day couples can do sweet things for eachother. If that is a hassle for them, or one partner requires something to be done, the relationship has some troubles that need to be addressed.

With that out of the way, I know in my grade-school classes it was obligatory to send something small and simple to everybody in class. Like Commu-OHSHOOT!

The red! The giving to everybody! The compulsiveness! Valentines in Communism day!

Boyfriend is looking a bit like a Noble right now. He wants to go somewhere uber-special or summat. I work 6 hours a day as a cleaner during the week, and I'm -always- sore on Saturday. That's usually when I kick back and do something lazy/creative. I'll probably be getting a few hammerblows if I don't go with, though :P

I'm with Duke here I guess. I'm not about to buy anything from Hallmark, but I don't think it's terrible to celebrate it, within reason.

The highschool thing gives me shivers, even though I'm out of it now. I sort of see most highschools as a prison camp. It's a job you can't quit, can't transfer from without begging to the authorities, and can't get your coworkers fired from. It turns into a bizzare tribal caricature of humanity, with mores and latent uneasiness with unfamiliarity being magnified to sacrosanct law. So yeah, that wasn't so fun for a (very shy) bi person. People: Don't teach your kids to go with peer pressure when it fucks with their morality. :P It screws a lot of other things up for people.
