Does damage done in the battlescape even count? I'm fairly sure corps get pissed only if you actually blow parts of their buildings in the cityscape.
oh yes they do. It's always funny when the alien cult (of Sirius was it?) comes to you all like "you trashed our building, pay us a million credits or we'll be pissed at you", and you go: "lolwhat? no!".

And damages to the city (except for maybe the stray fusion rocket hitting the cultist's precious temples) counts towards your daily scoreboard. Wether they were inflicted by you or the aliens. (Or in one case, Megapol chasing a criminal on a bike, shooting out a structural support in one of my slum HQ, killing each and every last one in it including the vehicles...)

Slums are deathtraps as bases.

Only a few of them. - Incidentally, the one the government assigned to me when I started out in superhuman mode... A particularly nasty deathtrap. Shoot any of the buildings in that block and the whole place collapsed like cheap dominoes.

But it's a good game. Atmosphere could have been a bit more dystopian. But that's just personal taste. I guess after 80 years of fighting against Greys, people don't need constant reminders of what a blasted hellscape the world has become.

Still, if anyone can figure out how to, say, replace the armoured space suit sprites with black trench-coats...

Here's another independant X-Com "clone" that you guy's might be interested in. It's still very much a WIP, but it shows definate promise.

It's called Project Xenocide:

I keep meaning to download the most recent version of that and trying it out. Anyone played with it?

Yep, it's pretty good actually. Unfinished but good, it used to have a nasty bug with the crafting bit but I think they fixed it.

Woops, confused with UFOAI.

I don't remember if Xenocide was playable beyond the planetscape when I first found it.

UFO: AI is the best clone by far, it's updated VERY frequently, is open source and is the most complete I've seen.

There's still the problem of non-destructible terrain.

Well, UFO: AI isn't finished. Half the plot was not added in yet.

I love the geoscape, but hate the battlescape. Is there any X-COM clone with only geoscape and no battlescape?
