I attempt to explain to my friends why we should butcher their pets for food, because a masterful dog tallow roast is worth more than the bad thought for a lost pet.

 Get the fuck out of my magma vent. You've already killed one swordsdwarf as he jumped into the volcano to attack you and burned to death hundreds of Urists below.

(Necromancy! Aiee!)

Because of Dwarf Fortress, I desire to construct a sprawling city-fort above an actual active lava lake.
...I daydream of the customers at work being goblins to be caged and hurled into magma.
...The idea of installing spear traps in the driveway to deter unwanted visitors is appealing.
...Living on top of a near-surface aquifer (underground river) makes me desire the creation of a dwarven water reactor.
...I want to train my pugs as war dogs.
...I want to build watchtowers with blue peafowl on the corners of my property.
...I wonder how distances map from DF to reality. (How many Urists in an acre?)
...Magma is a suitable answer to any problem.

you mean elves with loads of stone loaded onto their backs while walking on their hands with dwarves holding their legs to guide them?

LIES! NO MORTAL CAN REMEMBER WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE!

... I was playing scrabble and put down "andesite." My brother called BS, I called Wikipedia. I'm tempted to sign up for a geology class just to see if my "knowledge" is applicable to real life in any way.

//start{geology}

Andesite is an intermediate volcanic rock, frequently containing apatite, garnet, zircon, ilmenite, biotite, and magnetite with minor amounts of feldspar and containing phenocrysts.  They originate from the mixing of felsic (rhyolite) and mafic (basalt) magmas prior to eruption.  This results in a highly explosive magma that usually produces stratovolcanoes and can produce exceptionally violent eruptions.

//end{geology}

When I watched that Futurama episode about Fry's dog I couldn't stop wondering if Dolomite really was magma-proof.

No it's not, it decomposes at high temperatures.  If you add high pressure also, you get a form of marble.  If you have just pressure, you get a different form of marble.

I now scream magma at questions asked of me, in real life.

"Hey! How do you get rid of an ant infestation?"

"Would you like to sign a petition to save the forest?"

"Do you support Obama?"

I went to bed feeling sad and frustrated with my job search amongst other things and my room mate's cat came up and laid on my side and rubbed her head on my shoulder.  When I felt better I thought "Urist McNyx has been comforted by a pet lately."

Because of Dwarf Fortress... this conversation, slightly paraphrased, happened the other day

"The solution is obviously magma."
"We don't have any magma."
"You mean we just need to dig for it?"
"You can't dig to magma."
"What, no pick?  We have to make a copper pick first?
"You can't make a copper pick.  We don't have copper, or a forge, and you don't know how."
"What kind of lousy embark is this?!"

(Entirely in good humor, seeing as I was positing magma as the solution for scheduling mishaps.)

After reading some posts, I found this one:

[...]
... I wonder why Dwarves, Elves, Goblins and Kobolds don't exist aren't seen in the real world.

and: Because of Dwarf Fortress my first thought was "maybe they didn't survive world gen".

Because of Dwarf Fortress I need a new CPU with more power.
