Taste of plump helmets?
« on: February 10, 2009, 11:31:00 am »

...for the sake of it.
Thus, how do you thiok they taste? IMG they're porously-soft with a salty champignon-like taste. Feel free to discuss other food too.

I imagine they taste like (insert some kind of mushroom here, like Dwarf said), but just slightly more starchy.

Then there's the other Armokian Plants. I'm pretty sure that Kobold Bulbs are onions, if only because Kobolds seem like the kind of creatures that would eat raw onions as a staple.
I've no idea what Rat Weed looks like.
Longland Grass is wheat, by another name, though I get the feeling that it is somewhat coarser than our wheat. Dwarven Wheat is a fungus that grows in tall, thin stalks with feathery caps, while the stalks are inedible, the caps are nutritious.
Hmmmm...
Pig Tails are definitely unearthly, though presumably they are rather simple-looking, being just short, curled stalks. They would have to be rather strong to be woven into fabric, though.
The great mystery of Pig Tails is what they are named after.

Ah, yes, and Fisher Berries are Blueberries, I bet.

I think Plump Helmets grow soft, but once they ripen they gain the general consistancy of a cooking apple. For the most part they'd be bland and a touch salty, but would absorb seasoning very well. A good addition to any dish, and it'd explain why they're minced so often.

I think Kobold Bulbs would be greenish onion-like things. I also thing Dwarven Wheat would be a tall-thin mushroomish thing, though the stalks would be good for chewing on, and the caps would be very dry. Pig Tails would, I'd think, be long, relatively thick stalks, with the fibers inside sticking out the top a bit and curling, hence the name. The husk could be stripped away and the fibers separated and used for thread.

Maybe Rat Weed = leeks?

Also, I picture Plump Helmets as tasting like these soft bamboo shoot things that you can get at some Asian food stores. You guys don't understand me or my life at all unless you've eaten some of those at some point.

You can brew them, based on that they must contain sugars of some kind and aren't just ordinary mushrooms

Either that or Toady got lazy

For some reason I think they would taste like grapes.  Maybe it's the purple.
