Bauxit bridge and Created obsidian
« on: February 10, 2009, 02:38:12 am »

Hy all
i just wondered what happens if you create obsidian on a bridge and you retract/rise the bridge?
Will it brake the obsidian in rougth obsidian, or just won't the bridge rise? Anyone tested this so far? (it would be cool if it would brake apart ... we could make automatic obsidian mining device ...

It just would do a cave-in.

It just would do a cave-in.
even if there is a floor below and you make a raising (not retracting) bridge?

i wasen't so sure so i tested some things ... an opening bridge, encrusted in obsidian ... well it opens when asked, obsidian (natural) wall rest there ... (no cave in becouse floore below) when you reclose it ... it closes and the obsidian (natural) wall still rests there ...
when i have more time i migth do more tests but it is still strange ... don't you think?

Interesting. This makes me wonder if you could restrict the water and magma inflows so that it never touches the edges of the bridge...that would let you collapse the obsidian. But I think that you'd still have solid obsidian wall when it dropped, which would eventually clog the works.

That does give me an interesting idea for a trap, though...

I am more interested in another thing:

When the bridge AND the surrounding is covered with obsidian and you retract the bridge, do you get cave-in or no (because the obsidian holds by the obsidian that was not on the bridge)?

Also, when constructed like this:

Code: [Select]
##########
#.....####
#.###.####
#.###.....
#.##o__###
#.##o__###
#.###.....
#.###.####
#.....####
##########

# - floor
. - open space
_ - bridge with obsidian
o - where bridge retracts

everything covered with obsidian

Would retracting of bridge mean cave-in of that 3x4 platform? Would this work with or without the atomic smasher effect?
