Pesky items in the depot
« on: February 09, 2009, 03:50:17 pm »

There are some items that I can see in the depot (Between trades), and I obviously don't have stockpiles for them, but I don't know what type of items they are.  Is there a way to see "inside" a building to the items underneath?

Press (t).  That gives you a 'building inventory' cursor.

If it's a cage, for some bizarre reason, dwarves just won't take them out until they're actually used.  Kind of a bug.

If they are good that you sent to the depot to trade, but didn't end up trading, (q)uery the depot, then hit (g) and un-flag all the goods. If there are stockpiles available, they will be taken back to their respective stockpiles.

Destroying and rebuilding the depot also helps encourage your dwarves to put those items in their proper stockpiles.

There's also:

Quote
# 000240 □ [dwarf mode][trade]   designated trade items are brought to the depot after the caravan leaves, and then they get stuck there

So every winter I deconstruct my depot, rebuild it, and mark for (d)umping everything left.
