I dunno, people get wedded to their frequently WRONG or otherwise OUTDATED notions.. this community is (imnsho) EXTREMELY insular and there is EXCESSIVE accumulated cruft that must be recognized and dealt with...

Since there's been some more gripe about accented characters I'm going to just give a little reference to which ones show up as the levers in the actual language files: ¢ and ●
They're sparse enough that most of us here could stand to edit them by hand (and those who couldn't stand it are probably the two or three people who actually understand how the accents change the sound of the letter.)
And if light modding doesn't make you terribly upset you could go into the raws and give stingrays a different character that seems fitting.

I'm thinking it's time to make a new version of the tileset. I'm considering changing to an odd pixel number to make diagonal walls sync up better, but I'm going to experiment first. Anyone have any other changes that should be made?

Also, here's the graphics set I've been working on. I thought I lost it but I finally found it in one of my backups. If anyone wants to mash up some raws for this, please feel free. You'll be fully credited for your help.

I don't think a change to odd pixel sizes is really necessary for getting diagonal walls to look right.  I modified someone's tileset a while back to get diagonals to work well.  I didn't actually test it in game myself, but the word was that it worked very well.  Let's see if I can dig up the thread...  Here's the thread, here's the tileset on the wiki, and here's an example fortress, in case you find any of that to be useful.  I explain in the thread the general thing that I did to make it work, and the tileset itself can obviously be examined to see the precise details.

This was my favorite tileset but it seems whatever the image host is down. Any chance of reupping it?

I'm pretty sure, though I don't recall it offhand. Really, the process is simple. just draw each icon in a regular grid and save it as a .PNG with a transparent background.
