Until you can create actual tiles for everything, I'll stick with ASCII, thank you.
Kinda how I feel :(
Same here.
Nothing negative to graphical sets, but I prefer my abstraction.

what is the point of comments like these?

the topic of this thread is the transparent tileset.
if you dont intend to use it, or have no interest in it, why do y'all even bother with this thread?
I actually do intend on using it, for the very reasons stated above. This is a very abstracted tileset, and thus something relevant to my interests. I just can't start a new thing of DF with all the things I need to do.

Updated with a bunch of tweaks. Cages look better, doors have the + sign like normal ones. % signs are improved.

Thanks for all the comments! Be sure to let me know of any problems. In particular, look for incorrect shading around the top and right sides of letters- I think I got it all, but I may have missed some.

I think my comment was more or less on topic. I may not have been clear, but I like this because o with a ' looks like an o with a ' over it, rather than a lever, even though it is used for levers.

I'm just saying, I hate rather dislike graphical tilesets because they seem too busy and the characters tend to overlap in usage. I like this one because it doesn't do that.

Thank you PTTG, the more I use this set, the more I like it.

I'm starting to notice the dropshadows in more places, like on bins, and engravings (my god, engravings)... You know, I think it's worth using this just for the engravings :awesome: .

I'm also growing fond of your font, and the way the messed with the < and > symbols is spot on.

Interesting, care to post an in-game screenshot? Perhaps I will give it a shot, if it looks good.  :)

I've put up a small fortress of mine on the DFMA: Guildwatch.

Woah, the compressor had some problems... I'll fix that quick.
DFMA still wants this to be a 8x12 font for some reason.

Anyway, thanks for the nice comments. I wanted to mention that I was definitely going for a kind of compromise between plain text and graphics; the <> are a good example of what I was trying to achieve. The barrels, cages, and catapults are just nice composition.

Every time I look at it, I see new problems, though. Going to put a shadow on armor stands and fix dwarves to be lighter, just not sure about how to do the eyes because I like the bright-eyed effect... It would be nice to have the ability to put permanent white pixels in.

Doesn't it only colorize pixels that are grey-scale? Couldn't you just add a little blue, or something, so it wouldn't recognize it as white but it would look the same? Or am I thinking of something else?

I've updated it and I think it's done; I'm very happy with how it turned out. Dwarves are now a shade lighter and Armor Stands have drop shadows.

Of course, please let me know of any issues you have at all.

Unfortunately, Tahin, it tints colors; look at the levers when they've been built with sandstone.

Every time I check this thread, another upgrade.  Cool.
Oh yes, and the < and > are also very helpful.  Makes it a lot easier to designate deep spiral staircases.

Almost the best part of the set, really ^^

You know, this is really good.  It should be put on something that will be easier to find than a forum thread.

I'm a bit confused as to how to get this to work. I pasted it into the art folder and changed the font option in the init to the name of the image but all I see is a black screen. Can someone help me with this?
