Friendly Goblins?
« on: February 09, 2009, 01:38:23 pm »

A little while ago I started a fortress on a goblin site, and set up camp.  They didn't seem to care that I began mining, building, and taking over their quarters.  There was even a guard that seemed to like watching my guys run around doing their jobs, and he even attacked hostile creatures.  Has anyone ever had this happen?  On previous releases I set up a camp and was immediately attacked.  Weird.

I've seen someone post a screenshot of an incoming goblin caravan before, the announcement being in the traditional magenta color. It seems goblins can be more than friendly in some cases.

Yes. I even reclaimed a fortress that had been conquered by goblins once, and the goblins who were still there were friendly.

They're friendly because the goblins are at peace with your dwarven civilization. There are ways to make sure that you are at war with them.

No, it's just a bug of the current Army/Civ system.  Intelligent creatures native to a site are Friendly no matter what.  Even if you're at war with the goblins in question, the civ will send attackers even as the locals mill about your hallways.  You can try going back to the February versions if you're desperate for the old thrill of surviving under the goblin's noses.

Like goblins that don't have [INTELLIGENT] or [CAN_SPEAK]? Yep, did that. Aqizzar is right.
