Killing the liaison.
« on: February 08, 2009, 12:39:15 pm »

I've embarked on an island and thus I have no enemies.

To make things more interesting I've decided to let my king come etc. and then wage war on the mountainhome I embarked from.

Now, is killing the liaison grounds for an all out war? Do I have to kill him or can I let dangerous animals devour him for me?

On the note of dangerous animals...Are Slugmen at all a threath? My dwarves are scared by them but their names don't sound very intimidating.

Any tips, advice etc. on original ways to kill him are welcome  ;)

Slugmen are annoying if anything

You can't wage war with your parent civ

Aww, you best be joking.  :(

I guess I'll just wait for some megabeasts and murder the Merchants for some added fun.

Only thing that happens if you kill your liaison is that you don't get another one and can't request things from the caravan.  :(

Hmm...

any way to make life on an island more interesting?

I'm at 216 dorfs with 16K food stores from which 9.5K is booze.

I'm so heavily defended for nothing actually.

Err....make that 217 dorfs.

There IS a multi-layer aquifer here, though, I've given up trying to punch through it since I've messed up multiple times.

IMO easiest way to kill liason is to trap him in water/magma chamber and ... "Pull the switch!"

That's what I'm thinking. The basic goals of establishing food\drink production and surviving the first few wildlife encounters\sieges are pretty trivial. The "hard" goals in this game all involve creating tons of rock blocks, mechanisms, and dangerous interactions with water and magma. Check out http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Challenges for some ideas on how to play the game. Set crazy goals. My current fortress seeks incredible wealth in the slavery industry, caged beasts and invaders.

Build a massive tower that covers nearly all of the island in one cyclopean pillar stretching towards the sky. This is what I am envisioning:

Drawn at night, because the world of DF is a world of eternal darkness.

Also, capture the slugmen and dump them in a room with some tables and chairs and beds and stuff. BAM, slugman/dwarf fort.

im kinda used that humans siege me because always they have left theyre guild representive is still there and then i get a siege, and i then i pull the lower to close the drawbridge and after a while the diplomat berserks and it pops up ''A diplomat left unhappy'' i dont know if this works on dwarfs tho but it sure works on humans. ;D

Yeah, right now I'm gathering wealth to lure some megabeasts to my fort.

I any case I can just seal myself in... I have enough food to last me several millenia and enough farmland and indoor fishing areas to keep piling it up.

I haven't punched through the aquifer for the simple fact that I don't need too. I have enough layers above me (mountainous island) that contain ores and below the 3 layer aquifer.

I have two entrances, both of which are heavily defended and in multiple ways so nothing can really kill me.

How much wealth do you need for Megabeasts? I really want to capture and tame some dragons.

I hate to ask, but can the megabeasts even get to your island?

Flatten the mountains!

Um, unless your fortress is in the mountain.
