I don't consider cooking seeds/fat exploits. Cooking seeds is a bit of an "in case of emergency, break glass" option; it produces food, but puts a strain on your farming output.

Fat/tallow is just another edible part of your kittens.

Both of you forgot quantum dump-stockpiling, though.

i do not use quantum dump as a stockpiling feature, but i would be extremely annoyed if this feature were completely removed from the game.  I hate stone clutter and this is the fastest and most convenient way to deal with it.

I'm mixed on whether it's an exploit or not. I use it quite a lot, but with an acknowledged goal that the dump stockpiles are only temporary - I need to either chasm the rock or turn it into something or spread it back out eventually.

The reason I'm mixed is that I would expect a legendary digger to be able to do with the rock what I wish. If a novice can dig and sometimes leave nothing behind and sometimes leave something, why can't a legendary digger choose to do one or the other? The quantum stockpile seems to balance out that shortcoming.

I love about Dwarf Fortress that every last product, by-product, and material is enumerated and exists in the game world, but we have to acknowledge that mining and stone are handled in a very fantastic way in DF: a miner digs the tile and leaves a stone sitting there and the tile becomes passable, but where did all the slag rock go? Thank the gods of kobol we don't have to deal with carting off debris after mining.

I almost, ALMOST wish that mining and stone were handled invisibly and without hauling, but this would take more away from the game than it would add I think... Quantum-dumping stone may or may not be 'cheating', but remember that DF is a single-player game with no victory conditions, play how you want. There really is no 'cheating' :O
