What's a good game?
« on: February 08, 2009, 12:10:22 am »

After playing some indie games like DF, Spelunky, and DoomRL, I'd like to know if their are any other really good, free, downloadable type games that I might enjoy.

Anyone got any recommendations?

NetHack, though you probably already know about that.

Uh...CaveStory (It's the 2004 game. Google for translation patch). ELONA is okay.

Tribes 2 is a free game now, too, and a friend of mine is always bugging me about how great it is.

And that's all I can think of at the moment.

The level design feels quite a lot like Kirby games.

 A Kirby-like...

A kirby-like...

I mean, that would be amazing... Must play it now...

I had my fun with La-mulana, 'till halfway through when I knew for sure I needed a guide to complete it. I liked the feel and everything, but come now.

I have only two real issues with Eternal Daughter

1) It is TOUGH

and

2) It is very secret based... (MOST of the powerups in the game are flat out secrets... and you will die trying to get them)

Bonesaw does remind me a lot of Kirby. Particularly because it seems to borrow some of it's sounds.

An Untitled Story is a nice example of Metroidvania. With a nice style too.

It really depends on how far thosre two features take it. If too difficult, then a game is just death tedium. If things are too secret*coughLa-Mulanacough*, then you get the feeling of being cheated when you have to look up the guide.
