Is this one of those Jericho-style invisible wars?  Because I've never heard of these things clashing.
-In this weird game... I cannot remember what it is called... You can play a purely magical race who could fight a purely technological race. They hate eachother.
I remember that!
It was 3-d right?
And the magic side ussually won because they had battlemages and could summon golems which were slow as hell but was like wtflolpwn?
Aaaaand the magic side started out with basic mages, which you could upgrade intofurther classes like the aftermetioned battlemages and summoners (Builders)?

Can't remember the name though.

Oh no doubt.  Just funny things used to happen (thinking of Moses) that we now know can't happen.

I hope the point you're trying to make is that people claimed things used to happen that we now know can't happen.

Aw dammit.  Thanks for catching me there.  Okay, all talk of religious figures and/or events ends now.

No it's not.  Remember, we know nothing compared to what there is to know.  Who knows what the truth is?  Just pick a belief you like and role with it.  If everyone followed that, the world would be a mildly better place.

(even though it may have sounded like I was denouncing Moses, I actually believe in God and what he did.  I'd explain my reasoning, but I'm trying to prevent an argument here.)

So no arguing.  It is all futile as none of it can be proven or, for that matter, unproven.  Argument about this just results in bitter raging and anger.

Why is unproven a word but not disproven?  Coulda sworn it was the other way around.

Personally, I think if magic does or even ever did exist, it has grown incredibly weak due to the increasing knowledge of chemistry and physics.  Like they are opposing forces, you know?  Strange things did use to happen in the old days, when people didn't know any better.

...No.  Just, no.  Ignorance of physical laws never gave earlier civilization any power to thwart them.  Science works whether you know it exists or not.

Amen. And ignorance of magic does not give scientists the power to resist fireballs.

The problem with picking a belief and then rolling with it is that that tends to lead to trying to destroy everything that goes against that belief.  So in fact, if everyone did that the world would not be better, but worse.  Unless your idea of better is more people killing each other because they disagree.

Then again come to think of it you could say that everyone already does choose a belief and roll with it and that some people believe that we should actually think about possible alternative viewpoints rather than just trying to kill everything different from us.

No. No. No no no.

This is where that "agree to disagree" concept comes in. The people I know who "pick a belief and roll with it," don't try and convince others that they are wrong in their beliefs. This is the basis of arguments, and indeed many conflicts and wars.

And one should not start now.

What's that?

A neato cross between Baldur's Gate and Fallout, by some of the guys who made the original Fallouts.  Magic, steampunk, and Scottish dwarves - it was a fun game, if too long for it's own good, but in concept anybody could have designed it.

And there's magic versus tech in Arcanum.

Tech relies on rules of physics, while magic bends those rules, thus the two don't work together in Arcanum.

Though in the vanilla game, techies have to shop around for ingredients, as well as digging into every trash can for more parts. Some tech schematics don't work, and most guns are not all that powerful. Meanwhile the mages only need to pump up their constitution, fire up some CON-enhancing buffs and then shoot magic all day long.

There're some mods to give the guns and techies a better chance.

Doesn't every topic end up in an arguement, followed by laughter and merry-making?

There is one cracked out technology path - explosives and throwing.  With Dex 9 and mid-level throwing skill, all throwing takes just 1 action point.  A bladed boomerang, which will never run out, get lost, or damage itself, can do stupid amounts of damage when you can hit 8 times a round.  And actual explosives are just game breaking.
