Lurkers, unite!
« on: April 03, 2004, 06:53:00 pm »

I a desperate attempt to bring life to the board, I urge all readers of this message to post now! Anything, no need to have something interesting or relevant to say, but that would be nice.

No 'even' in my copy:
"That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons death may die."

'Polaris' my favourite probably.

Is that some sort of undefinably plain programming language? Cause that'd be nice to have. Links?  ;)

I'm a faux-lurker!  I just picked up my PDE book and broke off two of my guitar finger nails.  I actually saw the rather large pieces fly through the air.  It was disconcerting.

X, my version has "even"...  doesn't that word give both lines in the couplet 10 syllables?

Ow! That'll teach ya for growing long nails. :P

On the quote, had a bit of a hunt, and it seems to depend who you believe,
Lovecraft: http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/thenamelesscity.htm  http://www.yankeeclassic.com/miskatonic/library/stacks/literature/lovecraft/stories/nameless.htm
Or the 'Necronomicon': http://www.necronomicon.biz/  http://www.netsoc.ucd.ie/~tadhg/main/notdead.html
Making the couplet a neat 10,10 probably explains the discrepancy.

Odd that in both the Lovecraft links you gave, the couplet appears at the beginning and end, first with "even" and second without.  Maybe he couldn't decide himself.  I have a cheap Del Rey collection of Lovecraft stories that had "even" in both -- maybe the editors saw that he had it both ways and decided to keep the rhythmic one.

Edit:  Whoops, I meant first without "even" and second with it!

This game looks megafun.  I'm a psychologist, so I can program individual minds for each and every NPC, making it an ultra-real world.

Although apparently this might require some sort of 'super computer'.  I think that 'super man' might have one, though.

Too bad that megafun rhymes with meganotdone.

Man, wouldn't I be skirting all kinds of oddness if I used psych for the AI?  I've seen the stats on rural boys and livestock.  The numbers 1 and 14 as a fraction come to mind.  Armok will have a lot of farmland.  I was planning do some individualization...  I think I wrote a bit of it up in the mental section of the future pages, vaguely.
