No migrants?
« on: February 04, 2009, 06:43:58 pm »

For some reason in the new versions of the game, I don't get any migrants coming to feast on my personal stock of food.  The game's no fun when there are so few dwarves to tort- I mean.. play with.

How long have you waited? The first few seasons always seem to have a poor output of migrants. Usually they come on the second year. Also, depending on the quality and size of your fort/constructions they may not come.

Three solid years.  The fort is completely underground, with at least four levels being used for something, including one that has a good 30ish 2x3 rooms dug out.

Hmmm did you make any changes to the init file? And are you playing vanilla?

If I had any idea how to make such changes, I wouldn't anyway.  It's straight vanilla from the download.  The person who got me to playing the game said something about the place possibly not being reachable by the migrants or caravans, but I never had that problem before.

Wealth attracts migrants.  In particular, wealth traded or offered to the dwarven caravan seems to attract migrants.

This would assume I get caravans either.  And I do have that outside, but nobody ever comes.

Is there a Dwarf Mountainhome in your civ screen? Are you the last settlement of Dwarves on earth?

I had a map where the dwarf caravan was slaughtered when I wasn't looking in the first year and I never recieved another after that. The dwarf civ was mostly eradicated in world gen, with no king left to rule them.

Have you built a trade depot? With no depot, the caravan won't come, and migrants will be less willing to come.

Did make any finished goods to trade?

There is a Dwarven location on my Civ screen, yes.  And I did say that I built a trade depot.  Dunno if I had any finished goods, but that never stopped either caravans or migrants from showing up in games played before the z-axis installments.

Well they should be able to.  Though from what little I can tell, maybe I'm too high up a mountain or some such?  Perhaps I should try making a fort on the plains.

Even if they couldn't reach the Depot they'd still announce their arrival and just hang out around the edge of the map.

My guess is your location is inaccessible to all but the home dwarf civ and your home dwarf civ no longer has a mountain home. Try save scumming and looking in the legends screen for your civ.
