No one has mentioned the epic bugs what we will find in the new version? Bah!  ...Because as we all know, even the bugs are entertaining in DF.  :D

A long wall of fortifications in front of the fortress, with hatches set into the ground behind it, each with a weapon and armor rack.  When you put your squad on duty, they all come from wherever they were gathered, scramble up out of the hatches, don their individual suits of leather armor and grab their individual crossbows and take positions evenly spread behind the wall.

He charges.

After cleaning up the body with a quick toss into the magma river, he tends to the terrified children and kittens of his legend.

No. That would be impossible, even in a hundred years, no matter how advanced DF is. Dwarves will still be dwarves, with matching wits. There's no way a dwarf, in the presence of a magma river, would pass up the chance to toss their enemy in the magma, then jump in to wrestle them. The scenario you have here is too undwarven.

Was not expecting that. I thought you were going to completely dispute everything I said. And then, no no, he'd "jump in." And that thought is awesome, assuming he's also fire-proof. He goes back into his office, puts his weapon up, changes his clothes, and checks on the children. ON FIRE.

The voodoo that I do in this case is run down children with a helicopter, swinging away at them with a gigantic ball menacing with spikes of magnetite.

The body... it's like chasming, only with fire...  Doesn't have to mean you're fighting close to it...

Yeah, I read that part, but I was too caught up in the "what a majestic fortress!" feeling to imagine said fortress not having magma channels running down its corridors.

Was not expecting that. I thought you were going to completely dispute everything I said. And then, no no, he'd "jump in." And that thought is awesome, assuming he's also fire-proof. He goes back into his office, puts his weapon up, changes his clothes, and checks on the children. ON FIRE.

Of course. Dwarves will still believe they're fireproof but they'll probably become polite enough to avoid bumping into every object possible while ablaze.

-Hey Urist, wanna go down to the hall to get a drink?
-Naw mate, can't do. I'm on fire. I wouldn't want to ruin the booze for everybody.

And then, when you arrive at your destination, the dwarves split up and destroy anything in thier path. Kinda like locusts, but bearded and drunk.
