Anyway, dwarves already name their months after materials, vaguely relating colors to the weather of each month.  Maybe they would name the days of the week after weapons?  Urist, Bomrek, Lokum, Libash, Nil, Dastot, Zasit, Og.  One too many perhaps, and oddly there's no word for "mace".
Actually, it fits. Exactly 3.5 weeks per month.

As opposed to the "4.4285714285714285714285714285714" in a average 31 day month? or the 4.2857142857142857142857142857143 in a 30 day month? What about the "4.1428571428571428571428571428571" in a Leap Year February?
I'd rather a nice, round, half week.

Pedantry aside:
Do we want to tie ourselves down to 1 moon with a 28 day cycle divided into 4 parts?

Why do dwarves care about lunar or solar cycles anyway?
-Three Toe stories tend to refer to only one moon, and Adv. mode refers to whether or not "The Moon" is out. That said, I suspect that in the future, the number of moons/seasons will vary.

On the other hand, there are legends of rare occasions in Adventure mode, maybe only in older versions, where sometimes a world would be generated with multiple moons, or a counter rotating planet.

That doesn't explain why underground fungus is more sensitive to seasonal changes than surface plants.

Though come to think of it, perhaps they are photosensitive to extremely high wavelength radiation. This radiation comes from the sun and penetrates rock, but during winter the bulk of the planet is shielding the plants, and they get too little "sunlight" to grow.

There's really no good reason why plants that can grow at the bottom of the map would be effected by seasons.  Or why the surface plants grow all year long.  They're both just game design choices on Toady's part - underground plants have seasons to keep farming from being effortless free food, and above ground farming hasn't gotten a big interest arc yet.

Not really a legend, since I've seen it happen myself numerous times.

Toadday One, Toadday Two, Toadday Three, Toadday Four, Toadday Five, Toadday Six, Toadday Seven

Win. Though there isn't much of a reason to have 2 "d"s in each. 1 should suffice.

Minday (Miner's Day), Craftday (Crafter's Day), Tradesday (Trading Day), Hulday (Hauling-day), Forday (Forge Day), Brewsday (First weekend day), Toadsday (Toad's Day)

I likes 'em. I'm thinking that we need to look for the dwarven words for these.
Day=Alod

Avulsalod, Rigothalod, Nishalod, Ozkakalod, Zuntiralod (Anvilday, as there's no "forge"), Mabdugalod (Aleday), Nodalod.

I like it.
I think I'm going to go with that for the MUD (Which is what sparked the creation of this thread in the first place), unless of course Toady rules otherwise.

Bah... I hate avulsalod.
Is it really that bad? Say it with me: Ah-Vole-Sah-Lod.

Ah. I'm far to used to critique...
...Even when It's not my suggestion.

Anyhow, as soon as I get home those shall become the official the days of the week on the MUD....

I think days should be named after gods, just like names of days in English are derived from names of Norse gods. Now, all we need is to select the seven most awesome gods ever generated by DF.

Or randomize them on worldgen ;)
