They might do for slum housing, but Proper rooms should haveat least 3 tiles to their name. I usually use 2x2 rooms.

Are your dwarves living in DIRT that is just sad :'(.  Maybe it's just me but if there's an aquifer at least build some wooden walls.  I usually build 5 by 5 or 3 by 5 rooms in rock but of course I usually keep a low pop cap.  Though I'll have to say that is efficient.

It's efficient but don't expect any complements from your dwarfs

Check out my dwarfs livingspace.
its in a 6 story apartment complex (outside of course)
Everydwarf living in it gets a 4x3 bedroom 4x2 office and 4x6 dining room.
There are 6 units per level (only 5 on the first cause of the entrance)

That's very cute, Lowtierhero!
And very stylish, Magic! You'll have to let us know what the rental is on those rooms. Also, are the dwarves forbidden from their rooms when you order them all inside for sieges?

Aww, thankee! :3

Alright guys, I appreciate the input, I'll try to make some classier rooms before dwarven economy sets in. I figured I'd just make little pod rooms since more often than not they're all out and about working/eating/attending parties

Only problem is that a guy at the bottom right has to walk all the way across west, then up, then east, then up, then west again just to get some food. make an opening near those stairs.

I was JUST thinking that, actually. The other option I considered was making mini food+drink stockpiles at the end of each hall

EDIT: Also, the dirt is actually sand, which I've been harvesting for glassmaking, but I'm slowly working torwards making a limestone floor that stretches all throughout the fortress!

Your living spaces for each of the individual dwarves are tiny.

How is that tiny? My dwarves don't even get doors. I wouldn't give them beds, but then they'd try to sleep in the main hallways and get in my way. And I haven't modded them to be butcherable.

In Likotamas my dwarves sleep where they fall.
taht doesn't matter, because they just saw the most wonderful table in the most wonderful dining room when they were drinking the most wonderful sunshine.

Being happy doesn't make your dwarves trap-proof, or grizzly-bear-that-happened-to-walk-by-proof.

And then, when you arrive at your destination, the dwarves split up and destroy anything in thier path. Kinda like locusts, but bearded and drunk.

1x2 rooms can be as good as ever, so long as you provide your dwarves with appropriate art. I can't tell when my dwarves are sleeping, though...
