Good enough. Just make sure we have enough land to stand on at the very least.

yeah a 50-50 land to ocean ratio would be suggested, Sinister would probably work, but we wouldn't notice it much, as it's the lowest evil savagry. sinister->haunted->terrifying, like serene->mirthful->joyful wilds or calm-wilderness-untamed wilds.

Okay, I'm posting the latest.  I think this will make us happy.

"The Gory Sea"... bodes not well, methinks.

Terrifying ocean, untamed wilds.  Should give us a challenge, to say the least.

What do you think?

My only concern is magma, it becomes a real pain to do a fort without it. Even if it's only a pool, I'd vote for that.

Otherwise, ocean looks good :)

PS: if you don't have the view magma from embark screen init option set to always, you should switch it, as that will help you find magma near an ocean. Or at least that's how I would do it.

You know, I think it'll be easier if I just create my own embark tonight. Sound fair? Anyways, I'll be back in what is it, like 8 hours? School.

Alright, I've got a place all picked out. A few zombie snailmen, a gigantic ocean, terrifying surroundings, warm environment. It should be grand. Logs will start tonight after I get off of work. Its three here now, and I should be getting off around eleven or so. So I'll post all the information then.

I didn't check to see if there was magma or not, however if everyone REALLY wants magma, I can start over (I've already played a wee bit.)

If we have sandstone, we- ahwaitaquifer

Yeah, I have absolutely no experience with aquifers. If we're going to have an oceanside fort with an aquifer, i've heard magma will help out tons. It'll be impossible to get a metal industry going otherwise, becuase if there's aquiferness, Mining out ores will be impossible because the mines will just fill up with water.

Also, jpeg is the killer. Save in PNG. D=

GIF is smaller and normally used for online posting imo. Even if you loose some color info.

As to the site... yeah... the 5 biomes looks interesting, but magma is really important to me. I don't know about the rest of you. I've done forts without it, but when we will have large amounts of sand to make glass with, along with metal forging, it just seems a waste to do it without.

Decided to just go ahead and generate a world and find us a good spot:

Haika's Ocean

This is some low cliff(2) untamed wilderness badlands with magma near a terrifying ocean. Neighbors are all three traders and goblins, and no aquifier other than the first layer under the ocean. It dosen't have flux, but I think we should be able to trade for it, and it has 4 top layers of soil for plenty of underground building and farming.

If you like, whomever is first download the rar above there, unpack into your saves folder, and the area I described is in the lower left hand of the world, just to the side where the badlands meet ocean.

Oh and that screenshot is using my normal settings and graphic views. I'll install a new 40d and switch to the graphics set that was mentioned before for the actual game.

I posted in the joining(first) thread and after looking here I figured i would probably get accepted...
but do we honestly need an ocean fort? you guys have no idea how weird it can get, there's no wood, (just a bunch of driftwood but i haven't found a way to use that) you can't really dig deep down or your tunnels will flood so  maintaining a normal fort without everyone going emo and jumping into the ocean would be practically impossible.
